PRS SE CE24 Standard Satin, super smart move by PRS?
The PRS SE CE24 Standard Satin (wow, mouthful lol) is a newer PRS that only costs $500! A PRS for $500 is insane. The next cheapest is like $679. I've heard some really great reviews and was wondering if anyone here either A. has played one, or B. owns one. I'm thinking about maybe going for it. Before I was looking at the Epiphone Extura Prophecy (basically a metal Explorer) and they're $900. If this PRS is as good as people say, and is $400 cheaper, I'll have to go for it.

I've not tried one but that would be my next step, to go to a store and try one. (Physical stores are disappearing though, so it could be a while before I get to one...).
All I know is that I played a PRS SE Standard 24 about a year ago and was shocked at how well it stayed in tune. I was not used to the 24 frets but it was a guitar I could see getting at some point.

Some of the PRS Santana models through the years have been pretty cheap; I played one in a store once and thought it to be decent (playability/tone/appearance/value). There is a current PRS Santana SE that's about $800ish that has a 24.5 inch scale which is more Gibsonesque than the usual PRS scale lengths. https://guitargearfinder.com/guides/ultimate-guide-to-guitar-scale-length/

When you change strings if you pre-stretch them well (tune, pull up on the string to stretch it from the nut to the bridge and various points in between, retune, repeat until it will not go out of tune with radical stretching) staying in tune shouldn't be much of a problem on any decent guitar no matter how radical you are with the strings (unless the nut rocks or the bridge anchors are loose or something).Without a locking nut locking tuners can also help (if you don't have those make sure your stretching pulls the strings well at the tuners when you are stretching close to the nut and it should be great.Constantine wrote:

I always pull the strings up a bit. Especially when I change the tuning (standard to d standard, etc).

I've heard that the PRS Santana models have fat necks because that is what Carlos likes...otherwise I would have gotten one ages ago. I have short fingers so thinner necks are better for me. The "Wide Thin" necks in some PRS models is okay, but the "Wide Fat" is not.sirhemlock wrote:Some of the PRS Santana models through the years have been pretty cheap; I played one in a store once and thought it to be decent (playability/tone/appearance/value). If you're not afraid to mar an instrument you could always do what Steve Vai does to his workhorse JEMs, get some sandpaper from Home Depot and shape the neck profile to your exact liking. I have done that before, with a Frankenstein Strat I no longer own, with satisfying results. Done well if ever wanting to sell I would list it for the going price and mention it as a plus rather than a minus of the instrument (unless u screw it up haha).
I kinda like the Myers better than the Santana /same price, scale length, & etc. (albeit 22 fr/ fixed bridge vs. 24/trem). I hear (not sure) the Myers is the best selling PRS guitar of all time(?). Beautiful guitar. https://findmyguitar.com/compare/PRS-SE-Zach-Myers-vs-PRS-SE-Santana-comparison.php
