Best 24 fret metal guitar (without Floyd Rose)
I'm wanting to get a guitar good for metal and rock (really all genres. By metal and rock I just mean it has humbuckers), that has 24 frets, but no Floyd Rose tremolo. I already have the Ibanez Jem Jr. (24 frets, floyd) so I don't need another. My main pick right now is the Epiphone Extura Prophecy. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

I played a PRS SE 24-Fret Standard in a Guitar Center last year and was very impressed by it. It stayed in tune so well that i was tempted to buy the floor model. I do not use a tremolo so this non-tremolo model was more than enough for my purposes.

As for the duplicate post, you should delete it before anyone posts on it.

Re: Best 24 fret metal guitar (without Floyd Rose)
I bought a Schecter two years ago, and I love it. My model (C-1 Exotic Spalted Maple) has their version of a whammy bar, but you can set it to act as a fixed bridge (this is what I do). It's the first 24 fret guitar I have owned, so I'm not sure if it's the best one, but it plays super nice and I can get WAY better tones out of it than my former one. A friend also gave me an older Hellraiser C-1 that, originally, was more expensive than my C-1 and has active pickups. It needs a bit of work, though, so I don't have personal experience with it yet.

I'll add that I got better value vs. price for the Schecter brand than Gibson or Fender. I tried a few of them and would have had to pay $500++ to get the same quality of guitar. So look for a guitar made by some of these semi--large brands like PRS, Schecter, Kramer, ESP, etc., you'll get a better deal.
Why don't you search what guitars your favorite guitarists use and see what they cost? I've always wanted a John Petrucci model, but they're SO expensive. But I'd definitely check out the economy model.
As well, I've drooled over Steve Vai's guitar as well. And I believe he has an economy one as well.
I'd love to get a Mustaine flying V sometime. I'm guessing they chug pretty good considering he uses them!

I have a Jem Jr right now and I love it. The only bad thing is you can't tune down because of the Floyd rose bridge. I have looked into the Epiphone DM Flying V because I love the looks, but it's over $1,000. I've been looking mainly at the Epiphone Extura which has really really great reviews and costs around $900 new. I also looked at the PRS SE 24 and they have a model around $600 (I don't remember exactly) that has great reviews and looks awesome.Sevenoneself wrote:I'll add that I got better value vs. price for the Schecter brand than Gibson or Fender. Ok, I've done some more research. As much as I LOVE the Epiphone Extura Prophecy (especially in purple), my current top pick is the PRS SE CE24. It has really REALLY good reviews, it looks awesome (especially the charcoal), it doesn't have a Floyd, and it's only $499.

You should be happy with any of those guitars. My Schecter was $1100 CA, so that's probably around $700-800 American. And I consider it to be my "expensive" guitar! All those brands are great. I've always drooled at PRS and Framus guitars for how beautiful they look, but I've got enough guitars to last me a lifetime now!
As i've said before, I refuse to downtune (except for Drop D). It's WAY too much work. But I understand if you want to play along to album songs you have to. I think, for myself, I'd try a 7 string so I could play down-tuned songs without down-tuning. But I also realize that it causes other complications, and it may not work.

You should check out the Digi-Tech Drop pedal. It tunes down your guitar all the way to an octave (there's also octave + dry) so you don't have to tune down. I know a few musicians who use this live to save time.Sevenoneself wrote:You should be happy with any of those guitars. My Schecter was $1100 CA, so that's probably around $700-800 American. I have this effect on my GT1000core. But I haven't played around with it yet. I'll let you know once I get around to it.

Oh, awesome. I have the Digi-Tech Whammy Ricochet which is basically just a Whammy pedal without the big pedal part. You set how long it takes to go up (or down) and how long it takes to get back. You can also set it to stay on when you press it. But, it doesn't have everything. It has 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, octave, 2 octave, and octave plus dry.Sevenoneself wrote:I have this effect on my GT1000core. But I haven't played around with it yet.
