Who is better at their singing, guitar playing, riff writing, etc. I say James Hetfield, not even hard. Jimmy is awesome but no one can match up to James.

Old Hetfield is great, newer Hetfield, the post I took singing lessons version, to these ears sounds like Glen Danzig, sorry it's what I hear. Jimmy hasn't changed that much honestly so I would lean towards him.

Okay well he doesn't hit those highs anymore but I rarely listen to anything after Learn so maybe I'm not the best judge. But... AJFA is the best album ever... I'm kidding you can think what you want, everything is subjective. Well Blackened and Dyers Eve are great but the rest of the songs they just play the same riff over and over for 10 minutes then on to the next. The first 3 are where it's at. I believe lightening is their last pure thrash album.Pethead wrote:

I think age has to do with this too, old guys like me that grew up when the bay area was exploding hear things differently. Of course I missed the beginning and had to go backwards some.

Yes, IMHO the 2 songs I listed were thrash. MOP has some thrash but they were changing.And I haven't paid attention to anything after Justice. Like I mentioned age has a lot to do with this. When the Black album hit most metalheads in the early 90's like me gravitated towards death metal, the most extreme for the time.

I can kind of understand that because you started with KEA and RTL. MOP is thrash with prog elements (the prog started seeping in on RTL). AJFA is full on prog-thrash. TBA is heavy metal (some songs like Holier Than Thou are thrashy). L/RL are alt. metal. St. Anger is thrashy nu metal. DM is thrash (the closest to KEA out of their new stuff). Lulu is terrible.
