You came off a little judgmental... Why single him out? I bet you there are things said by some of our favorite Christian metal musicians behind closed doors that would shock you.

You’re coming off as judgmental of me, according to this standard.

I’m just going off of your post about him hating black people.

Re: Secular hot takes
Sammy Hagar writes some of the dumbest lyrics known to man. I still like Van Halen, but I’ll call out songs like “Black n Blue” as being disgusting.

I don’t like or condone all of Phil’s lyrics. But I do like his voice on all of the Pantera albums (although CFH is by far the best)!
I probably cringe more at Kerry King’s lyrics, but it is what it is.

The tough guy thing was an act. Rex even said in his book.
Phil was trying to copy Mike Muir and Henry Rollins.

I agree that he has/had issues.
Even he will admit that. He’s trying to repair the damage. Notice he’s been out of the headlines for stupid stuff. He needed to hit bottom to realize he needed to get his life together.
Hopefully he stays the course. The last one was a wake up call. We are in a cancel culture world now.

I’ll say this for Gary: he was more than happy to sing any era of VH live.TZ75 wrote:Pethead wrote:But what about the Cherone era????

It’s okay son, I forgive and forget your album with VH (as far as the east is from the west).

And don’t give me that “THEY KEPT METAL ALIVE IN THE 90S!!!!” stuff. Metal never died. Metal doesn’t need to be mainstream to be great.
Shattered from the same album is fantastic!
Hot take:
I think Phil Anselmo was better when he was doing Rob Halford type high pitched vocals instead of the "attitude growl voice" he became famous for.
Another hot take:
Biggest Part of Me and Takin' My Life from Pantera's first two albums (the ones before Phil Anselmo was the singer) are better songs than almost everything they did later.
Also Burnnn from the first album with Phil Anselmo is better than almost everything they did after.

I guess the Phil kind of attitude was the dreaded macho variety. He was the villain. Or as the pro wrestlers would say: “the heel”. It’s all theater. Phil is an introvert in reality. He likes to stay away from the public eye when not touring.
