Re: Secular hot takes
I might be slightly biased towards 72S because it was the first Metallica album release I was a fan for. I remember hearing Lux AEterna and 72 Seasons and being super excited for the whole album to be released. It was my first time experiencing that. I still love it musically though. Yes, RIP is objectively the best MD album and it wins musically, but I also factor in lyrics which is how UA wins. And, Slayer is overrated. There are thrash bands with similar sound that are WAYYY better than Slayer. All of KK's solos are throw away whammy spam.Son of Nun wrote:seth wrote:72 seasons over Ride the Lightning is one heck of a hot take
He just flew into the sun.
Also, Rust in Peace is objectively Megadeth's opus.
And no, Slayer is not overrated. A lot of Christians just say that because they don't like their lyrics. I don't either, but Slayer's musical reputation is deserved.

Reign in Blood is still overrated, though, except for a few songs.
I don’t recommend Christians listen to them, but I don’t think it’s fair to call them overrated overall.

War Ensemble is a great song, and I also can't find anything in the lyrics to object to. Even Silent Scream has some strong language.Pethead wrote:I thought Slayer was overrated. I went and listened to “War Ensemble” and the title track. I realized then that, despite my hatred of many of their lyrics and their image, they were not overrated musically.

Seasons in the Abyss is easily their best album. And possibly the only album that I find a masterpiece by them.
War Ensemble is one of the best metal songs ever.

Son of Nun wrote:If Kerry King wasn't a cringelord we'd have a lot better lyrics in Slayer. I wish they'd let Araya write them all.
I never got into Slayer because of the lyrics but a few years ago I listened
to the early discography, chronologically, straight through. not sure how far
I went, at least 5 records... and I loved what I heard...
admittedly, I have never done a thorough lyrical examination and I assume
that Araya lyrics would be better because he is Catholic?...
could someone Cliff's Notes the Kerry King statement?

South of Heaven
Seasons in the Abyss
Divine Intervention
Diabulos in Musica
World Painted Blood
Those might have a song or two to skip, but the balance of them is less evil.

Up until six months ago saying the Holocaust was wrong was easy. Now, we're seeing people call for it again.StevenCressler wrote:The one Kerry King quote I do like was when he was addressed about not clearly stating that the actions described in "Angel of Death" were wrong (even though he called them sickening in the song, but whatever) and basically he said that he shouldn't have to clarify that all those tortures are wrong in the song because everyone should know that without being told. I was surprised hearing Kerry give a quote I really liked.

This is what Pethead listens to when he's not jamming Behemoth.Pethead wrote:Generally, the following albums are light on the antichristian lyrics:
