Soulblight (members of Jernlov)
Melodic black metal band Jernlov posted this on FB; apparently they've got a new project and it's sounding gooooood! It's got a doomy, emotive, post-black metal feel - though it's hard to tell much from a relatively short clip. I'll definitely be watching out like a hawk for more from them!

Re: Soulblight (members of Jernlov)
Ever since all of you at the CMR corrected some of my genre definitions I've had a bit of an emotional disconnect with associating Doom with quiet, folk, acoustic, melodic female vocals. I know much of it isn't this, but alot is!
I just chuckled listening this 'cuz I was expecting Gutteral growls, heavy plodding drums, and drop-tuned distortion.
Don't get me wrong--it was very enjoyable and I'm looking forward to more music from these guys!

I don’t really think of doom as typically having those characteristics. Maybe I’ve been listening to the wrong bands.

Maybe I have as well!
Remember last fall I had Kerrick, Mothy and CrimsonWarrior give me a few doom band suggestions? From my memory, Nick Leonard, Leonov, Docnargath, Omegashift had long acoustic/slower/melodic singing sections, and Omegashift isn't actually all the heavy.
Again, I enjoy all the music. I've just been surprised at how non-metal (according to my old definitions) some doom has been.

Some of those I would not call straight doom metal.

This is definitely not doom metal! To my ears though, those slow guitars give it a dark and doomy atmosphere. From that sample, I'd probably categorize it as primarily post-black metal - but with a darker vibe than, say, Alcest or Deafheaven.
As for the genre of doom... it's a pretty broad umbrella. Traditional doom is Place Of Skulls, Warpriest, Black Sabbath, etc. Once you start mixing doom with the more extreme metal genres (black, death...), it becomes a whole different beast.

How 'bout I rephrase a little bit?
I was surprised that a black metal band would post a completely acoustic clip as a teaser.
Is that better you two?!

I call that easy listening, Neil Diamond rocked harder than that.

Interesting. I wish the clip included a bit of vocals. Hope we can hear more of this soon. At least it was longer than the teaser for Frost Like Ashes' latest EP lol.
