I haven't posted my list yet, but Ready or Not is ruined by Guy's comically bad falsettos imo. I have no idea how the band decided that was the right idea! I would argue that most of StB is pretty weak vocally (Guy was MUCH better on Psycho Surgery imo) but this song is really something else. The instruments are solid though, especially the guitar solo.
To be fair I never could understand the love for King Diamond falsetto style (like the music and themes and the general idea just not the vocals). Same goes for that TQT album. Guy mixed with Gary's vocals work well on the next two albums tho. It only hit me recently just what a quirky metal band they are.

I think King Diamond’s appeal to his fans is his haunting voice. The falsetto gives a dramatic ghostly effect.
I think it works sometimes, but can also be annoying in excess. Also his voice sounds cheesy at times. Usually when he does the narration of multiple characters.

oh yeah I get that with the ghostly effect but damn it would be better if he kept to his mid range which is good and just use flourishes of said ghost effect vocals but it's more the other way round.TZ75 wrote:I think King Diamond’s appeal to his fans is his haunting voice. To really appreciate their quirkiness, listen to the Microscopic View album, especially Tomb of Gilgamesh or Besprinkled in Scarlet Horror (I'm sure you already have, but still)Dustofyears wrote:CrimsonWarrior wrote:Raegoul wrote:What‘s wrong with Ready or Not? One of my favorites.

Yes Have listened to those. it was listening to some of those post POD tunes that made me look back and realize it was there all along just not so in the front. Gotta say i'm one of those first three albums guys when it comes to TQT, and the first album is musically good and the vocals are what they are if you like that style mixed with melodic thrash. Great leads too from Eric and Gary.StevenCressler wrote:To really appreciate their quirkiness, listen to the Microscopic View album, especially Tomb of Gilgamesh or Besprinkled in Scarlet Horror (I'm sure you already have, but still)Dustofyears wrote:CrimsonWarrior wrote:Raegoul wrote:What‘s wrong with Ready or Not? Broken Chromosomes is one of the best early examples of their uniqueness

I loved Guy's falsettos the most, so Ready or Not and The Threshing Floor are my two favourite Tourniquet songs, purely because of the vocals.CrimsonWarrior wrote:Raegoul wrote:What‘s wrong with Ready or Not? One of my favorites.

If you don‘t like the Tourniquet version maybe you‘ll dig this (unironically one of the tightest hip hop jungle mashups ever):

In my humble—but accurate—opinion.

I agree. He should focus more on his mid-range vocals.
I like the way he sings on Egypt and The Bell Witch. But those are from Mercyful Fate.

Finally finished my listen-through, now I can answer this lol. I'll include their rating out of 10. I will also not be counting instrumentals, as those often rank the lowest, but I don't think it's fair to count them
