Any Shoegaze fans?
I'm just starting to get into shoegaze after ignoring it for so long.
Last year I began to explore post-rock for this seems like a natural outgrowth of that.
Does anyone have any favorite bands or albums or songs in this genre?
Are there any Christian shoegaze bands?
Starflyer 59 comes to mind but they claim not to be a shoegaze band.

I didn't realize that Starflyer 59 claims not to be a shoegaze band. I'm no expert, but I thought that Silver and Gold were both considered classic shoegaze albums. The former is the only one I own and it's good but I'm rarely in the mood for it. It's very soft and somber from what I remember.

Starflyer fits the definition even if they deny it. Cush kind of was but that's all I know.

Yeah, I don't know, here is one of his interviews...he doesn't seem to like the label and eventually decided to changed direction altogether.CrimsonWarrior wrote:I didn't realize that Starflyer 59 claims not to be a shoegaze band.

I listened to some of Starflyer's stuff today and not all of it fits the genre, but some appears to.Black Rider wrote:Starflyer fits the definition even if they deny it.
Funny, I used to have 1-2 of their CD's in the 90's but didn't care for them at the time and sold them.
I am listening right now to Slowdive, they seem to be one of the more popular bands in this space.

Not Christian, but My Bloody Valentine - Loveless is generally considered a masterpiece! Very good album and clean lyrics AFAIK. I got to see them live too which was pretty rad.
For Christian, you might check out Color Crush. It's the husband/wife duo behind Timoratus.

Thanks! They are named as one of the better bands of the genre so I will check this out.Kerrick wrote:Not Christian, but My Bloody Valentine - Loveless is generally considered a masterpiece! Very good album and clean lyrics AFAIK. I got to see them live too which was pretty rad.
Some of the bands in this genre I am familiar with, like Catherine Wheel, The Verve, Jesus & Mary Chain, or Ride.
But aside from maybe picking up one of their CD's in a $1-$3 bin once, I never paid much attention to them at the time.
Will also check out Color Crush.

Re: Any Shoegaze fans?
SF59 had two distinct sounds. The monochrome color albums (Silver, Gold, Americana, Portugese Blues) are shoegaze, anything else isn't. I wish I knew of other Christian bands like that.

Silver, Gold, and Americana are absolute gems in shoegaze. Portuguese Blues is good, a little back to the heavier sound, but more upbeat than most consider shoegaze...
I'm gonna have to check out Color Crush now...
