Favorite and least favorite Megadeth album?

Might as well do Deth next.

Favorite is Rust in Peace. It’s a perfect album that is the perfect blend of catchy and technical. Fantastic album.

Least favorite is Risk. I assume I don’t need to explain that choice.

Megadeth is my favourite secular metal act. However, IMHO, they do have an album with zero filler songs. 

RiP is the best album and, with the exception of Poison Was the Cure and Lucretia, is brilliant and perfect.

CtE is a contender for best album, but IMHO the mixing/mastering killed alot of the energy and High Speed Dirt, Psychotron, & Foreclosure aren't strong enough songs.

Dystopia is also a favourite of mine. But again, filler songs (IMHO) are Foreign Policy, The Emperor, even Bullet to the Brain.

I remember being very disappointed with Hidden Treasures when it came out; I didn't realize it was a compilation. Even though I enjoy a few songs on it I'd say it is the weakest album.

But if I had to choose a studio album for weakest album it'd be Risk.

I love both Lucretia and Poison Was the Cure. My favorite on RiP is the title track.

Favorite album: The System Has Failed - all killer, no filler; very melodic but still heavy; less technical

Least Favorite: Risk - shockingly bad album

Yeah, Foreclosure is good too. I don’t think there’s a bad song on RiP or CtE.

My controversial opinion is that I actually like Super Collider.

I like it too, they tried something a little different and threw off the fan base.

Going back to Dystopia tonight, that is one of their best post-2000 albums. I prefer it over Endgame, for example.

I do like the story behind FoaD which Dave Ellefson wrote and talked about in one interview I read.

I’ve never quite gotten the acclaim Endgame gets. There are some great songs on it (e.g. Headcrusher), but a lot of it leaves me cold.

Likewise. I'm a huge fan of Dialectic Chaos, This Day We Fight and The Hardest Part of Letting Go. Then there are ones like 44 Minutes, Endgame and Bite The Hand that are solid Megadeth songs, and then some filler, robotic songs. I think Head Crusher is a little cheesy (like Take It To The Cross).

I only know three albums by them but for their best it's a toss up between RIP and Endgame. Peace Sells was pretty good too and the reason why I ever bought an album by them.

I really like Dystopia but imo,  UA is the best post 90s deth album, the riffs are more memorable to me.

Agreed. UA is close to being a top-tier Deth album.

My goal today is to listen to UA again.

UA is my second favorite Deth album. Fantastic! The solos at the end of Burnt Ice are scorching.

Your 2 favourite albums are post-Risk, which makes you an anomaly among most Dethfans. I'm curious as to your reasons for this. Are you younger than half of us and so listened to the more recent albums before discovering the older ones? Are you a fan of the genre and style in the later albums?

I’m not young (going on 50). I just prefer the more melodic style they adopted starting with TSHF. I enjoy some of their older works as well. I think Rust in Peace and Countdown to Extinction are both fantastic albums. I’m not as big a fan of their thrashier and more technical work. I didn’t care for Dystopia for example. Peace Sells has some good songs, but lots that doesn’t interest me. SFSGSW was a solid album too. I just think they hit the master stroke with TSHF and UA.
