Mark Heard
Anyone here a fan of Mark Heard? I first became aware of him through Rich Mullins’ cover of “How to Grow Up Big and Strong.” I have several of his albums. Two of them are earlier and in the classic pop/rock vein (similar to Tom Petty): Victims of the Age and Mosaics. I also have his “Fingerprint Trilogy” which is more Americana: Second Hand, Dry Bones Dance, and Satellite Sky. I love everything I have, but my favorite is probably Satellite Sky. Super underrated songwriter.
So who here has heard Mark Heard? Favorite songs/albums?

I have a greatest hits album. I like it. I got in on the (bad word coming) crowdfunding for Dry Bones Dance reissue. Most of his albums are impossible to find at a reasonable price and have some of the early ones even been released on CD?

I don’t know that they have. I’ve gotten what I have through iTunes and they don’t have his whole catalogue, sadly.eatbugs wrote:I have a greatest hits album. I like it. Re: Mark Heard
I used to have one of his earlier albums and the tribute "Strong Hand Of Love" and didn't care for them, sold them a long time ago. I will give him another listen though because I seem to be more open to this style / genre these days.

When in the mood, I enjoy the Fingerprint trilogy a lot, he's a great songwriter.

He came up in the Pierce Pettis thread and rightly so—Pierce is a big fan. Sevenoneself, put down that weird Kerrick music no one can pronounce, and check out Mark Heard!
Here’s one of his best songs:

Re: Mark Heard
Victims is okay but imo but before the Fingerprint Trilogy there's a lot of skippable songs. At times he reminds me of Crowded House on the earlier stuff.

I can hear some of that, but I think there’s some Tom Petty sound too, especially on Victims.Black Rider wrote:Victims is okay but imo but before the Fingerprint Trilogy there's a lot of skippable songs. At times he reminds me of Crowded House on the earlier stuff.

Re: Mark Heard
I really like Victims of the Age and Mosaics. But his peak is no doubt the Fingerprint trilogy—which is one reason why most of my songs posted above are from those three albums.
