House (!!!)

This Friday we made an offer on a house and they accepted!!!       We've never owned a house before so this is quite overwhelming but exciting.  Inspections will be done this week and then we'll go into the negotiations, etc.  We wanted to live closer to nature, but we weren't able to afford something with property AND halfway-nice so we settled for something in town.  But I think it'll be really great for us nonetheless because it faces a nice big park in a clean and safe neighborhood - perfect for our daughter.  The house itself is a bit of a fixer-upper, though (so far as we know) just cosmetic stuff like paint and carpet.  I think we're getting a great deal on it too so it could be an excellent investment - especially if the market continues as it has been.  I'm kind of in unbelief that this is all happening!  And of course it's not set until we actually sign the papers and move in, but things are progressing that way!  Prayers are appreciated that we'd be wise in our finances and good stewards with what God provides.  Thank you!

^LOL I had a feeling someone might think I was talking about the TV show...     (I watched a couple episodes when it first came out and just couldn't get into it: the main character was annoying and every episode was the same exact plot/structure.)

Anyways, thanks for sharing in our excitement!  We're thrilled!

The inspection was done and while there are a LOT of minor/aesthetic issues, there are no big ones thankfully.  It's going to be a lot of work... but I'm actually kind of excited to get to learn some new skills and to beautify our [pending] new home!

Oh man, we are set to close on the house this Monday!!!  So far, everything's been going very smoothly with all the paperwork and such.  My father-in-law is arriving from Slovakia Sunday evening to help us work on the house which is pretty amazing.  I'll be sure to post some pictures when I can of the place and the progress we make!

Anyone have experience with "luxury vinyl" flooring?  It's the stuff you "click" together and looks like wood but isn't.  We're thinking of using that for much of our floors since it's reasonably cheap and hardy, though have no idea what brands or types we should be looking at...  Thanks!

Here are a few of the "before" pictures...  It's quite a job!  Gosh that carpet and pad was NASTY but it sure was nice to get those out.  Likewise, removing the flooring around two of the toilets was a major job too.  But now we're almost done painting the entirety of the inside and will soon move onto installing the vinyl flooring.  Hopefully we can get a lot done before moving day this Friday!

I can't wait to see the Number of the Beast mural on one of the walls.

Needs more Unicorn.

I've been hunting unicorns for a while [I think one would look great mounted on my wall] but haven't had any luck finding one yet.  Hopefully one of these days...

Here are a couple pics of the flooring.  It's tedious and slow-going work but I gotta say, it's not that difficult to install and I think it looks great.





The master bedroom's (pictured above) flooring is now 100% done and the hallway and hallway bathroom's flooring have begun.  As I said, it's tedious work, but the going rate to have it installed is $2/square-foot which is pretty steep IMO and it's certainly doable if you have a few tools.

My dad and I got one of the bedroom's floors done on Friday.  One more bedroom and the upstairs will flooring will be complete!  The stairs themselves will be a pain though because we will have to remove their noses...

Keep records of the fix-up costs so you can add them to basis when you sell the house </accountant>
