Songs that you didn't know were cover songs when you first heard it ?

I don’t think I knew Rez’s “Presence of the Lord” was a Clapton cover until later.

Just found out that Anthrax's Got the Time is a cover

For the longest time I didn't know that DC Talk's version of Lean on Me was a cover. And yes, I was a very sheltered child.

Since it was mentioned in another thread: Signs, originally by Five Man Electric Band. I was first exposed to the Tesla version

As a kid, I didn’t know DCT’s In the Light was a Charlie Peacock cover.

I didn’t know Newsboys’ Boycott Hell was a DeGarmo and Key song (minus Steve Taylor’s hilarious rap in the middle).

Was a while before I realized that too

I didn't know You're No Good by VH was a Linda Ronstadt cover for a long time.

But did you realize Rob Rock has done more than one ABBA cover???

I just now learned that. Never heard of Charlie Peacock. I seem to remember hearing their song Day by Day is a cover too, which I didn’t know at first either

Charlie Peacock has some great stuff.

What’s really funny is that the album that contains his original In the Light (Love Life) was actually pretty controversial for another song called Kiss Me Like a Woman.

I’ll just say that a lot of the album deals with married life as believers. The song goes along with that.

Bill Mallonee of Vigilantes Of Love had a song like that and it ended up causing him to get out of the Christian industry due to the criticism.

It’s ridiculous. As a blog I read argued regarding Love Life, these were the same bookstores that stocked books that were very open on this subject.

This song was on Bruce's first album in 1973

His lyrics are a little different than Manfred's in 1977

Every cover song Metallica did up to TBA. 

I didn’t know much about the NWOBHM bands that they took the songs from. And the Queen tune Stone Cold Crazy was a deep-cut that most young people like me (at the time) never heard on FM radio. To this day, there is still 80% of Queen’s catalog that I haven’t heard… because I never owned anything more than their greatest hits.

I have heard this before as I have the provocative album. Listening now, I don't remember this sounding this good. It's nothing like Joan Jett's very popular Bad Reputation song. Maybe you are thinking of another band and song???
