The Letter Black NEW RECORD
THE LETTER BLACK SIGN WITH EMP LABEL GROUP. PREPARE RELEASE OF THIRD ALBUM PAIN, MAY 26th.
3/13/2017
The Letter Black, who first burst onto the hard rock landscape with their Tooth & Nail debut HANGING ON BY A THREAD in 2010, are back with a new record and a new label, set to release their third album, PAIN May 26th on EMP LABEL GROUP. Produced by guitarist Mark Anthony, and mixed by the legendary Ben Grosse (Blink 182, Disturbed, Starset), the album, an aggressive step forward, shows the band venturing into heavier new territory.
“When we met to talk about the new record, it was unanimous that we wanted to do what we’ve been wanting to do all along. Metal. Though we have had those moments in the past, we were always restricted for various reasons. Those barriers are gone now, and that allowed us to create the record the way we wanted. This album is The Letter Black. For the first time, I feel we have successfully delivered the most honest and true music in the band’s history” recalls Mark.
Vocalist Sarah Anthony adds, “I wanted to really explore my vocals on this effort. I wanted to dive more into the aggressive side matching the more aggressive music but also touching on some more intimate moments on a few songs as well.”
In late 2016, the band, Vocalist Sarah Anthony, Guitarist Mark Anthony, and drummer Justin Brown, began talking to (Megadeth bassist) David Ellefson and Thom Hazaert of EMP LABEL GROUP. Through these talks, the band found themselves inking a new deal with EMP opening up a new direction for 2017.
“We are beyond excited to be working with David and Thom over at EMP. We really feel like they get what we are about. We have never spoken with anyone so open to letting us just go with it and create the album that we want to. That kind of trust makes us even more determined to do them proud and deliver the best album we ever have” states Mark.
“The band’s previous releases had been a huge for the band at Tooth and Nail, and they have always been an amazing hard-working band.”, says Hazaert. “So when the opportunity came to bring them into the fold at EMP we jumped at the chance. The Letter Black is one of the hardest-working bands out there, and we couldn’t be happier to welcome them to the family.”
The Letter Black released HANGING ON BY A THREAD, and the 2013 follow-up REBUILD on Tooth and Nail, before departing the label before the recording of PAIN. The band has since played over 100-150 shows a year, including support for Skillet, Thousand Foot Krutch, and more.
Formed in 2015, EMP has quickly become one of the go-to labels in the Worlds of Metal and Rock. Distributed by AMPED in North America, and SPV in Europe, EMP boasts a diverse roster including Cage9, Doyle, Mark Slaughter, Broken Teeth, Ancient, Doll Skin, Another Lost Year, Helstar and more!

Right now the lowest cost tier where you get a physical CD is $30.

Re: The Letter Black NEW RECORD
I would do $20, but I'm not kicking in $30 for a cd....not even crazy about paying $15 for just a download.
However, they've managed to collect just over $5000 in a couple of days...so it looks promising for them.

Yea I think they have a pretty sizeable fan base and will make it fairly easily, I will do the same $15 just to get the 2 extra songs and special album art.Staybrite wrote:I would do $20, but I'm not kicking in $30 for a cd....not even crazy about paying $15 for just a download.

Re: The Letter Black NEW RECORD
I will contact them for a $20 CD (not autographed) and digital downloads before the album is released. It has worked with other bands who had too high of a pricing tier.
Re: The Letter Black NEW RECORD
Let's see what happens. I just sent a private message through Facebook.
Re: The Letter Black NEW RECORD
If I remember correctly didn't Guardian lower some of the prices in their kickstarter campaign?

I asked Jamie via a PM, and he directly responded and made it happen. I told him about others here at the CMR wanting a lower tier and they'd get behind it, too. Now, while I did not care for the album, that is a great way to respond to fans!
As for The Letter Black, they did not respond as I hoped they would. Here is the reply I got from Sarah, the vocalist, when I asked about a $20 non-autographed version:
Hi Chris! I understand
where you're coming from but the reason the price is higher than it would normally be for a CD is because we are trying to raise money. If this were a normal site just for merchandise, the price would definitely be lower. Thank you for your concerns though and hopefully you can find an extra $10 to show us your support and help us reach our goal! Thank you so much!!
Sarah
I let her know that I still felt that $30 was too much and that I would wait until the album was released. I like them, but not $30 worth.
Re: The Letter Black NEW RECORD
Im not gonna hold it against them, I have seen plenty of other bands give a lot for $30 bucks, its fine that they are doing this but not even a non autographed one is pretty dissapointingalldatndensum wrote:As for The Letter Black, they did not respond as I hoped they would. Fallstar for example gave away their entire discography for $30 bucks (3 albums and an EP)
Anyway I'll probably just do the digital download
P.S. Maybe I should message and ask the same thing maybe if enough people ask we could make it happen?

Re: The Letter Black NEW RECORD
I just messaged them this:
Hey! Not to bug you guys, but is their anyway you could do a non autographed hardcopy for $20? I really wanna help you guys out and get my hands on a real copy, but being a broke highschooler $30 is a little much, is their anyway that could happen?

Let us know what they say!
I won't hold anything against them if they don't change their pricing tiers. I just won't get the album until after it is released is all.

Re: The Letter Black NEW RECORD
I would have kicked in $30 if I felt confident that I would really like the new album. I felt rather let down by the last album, and rarely listen to it. While I don't think $30 is highway robbery, it is a little too much for me to throw at something I might not even enjoy....better to wait until I can hear the music first.

They haven't directly responded to my message but
they posted this morning that they are going to adding some different perk options this afternoon.
Glad to hear that they might be considering a lower offer!
It sounds promising

Re: The Letter Black NEW RECORD
The guitarist PM'd me on Facebook to tell me that they had indeed listened to our requests. Since I was the first, Sarah didn't want to make a new pricing tier for just me. However, they have gotten a few requests now from various folks and the band has decided to give this a try. While some of us may not feel like throwing $30 at it, they will pick up a few folks who would like to help them out.

Re: The Letter Black NEW RECORD
I remember when Decyfer Down did their last Kickstarter. They started off strong and died out about half way through. They ended up NOT getting the funds. They had to drop back down some and try again. They made it with the second attempt.
Hopefully for The Letter Black, that won't happen. Perhaps they have a generous benefactor that will kick in a couple of grand. It happens with some artists.

Re: The Letter Black NEW RECORD
The band is only $94 dollars away with 4 days to spare. Looks like this one is going to happen!
