Concerts across the oceans Empty Concerts across the oceans

Post by Tuckson Tue Apr 07, 2020 10:30 am

Hi,

Just today discovered this form. Nice place to hang out.
What I am just wondering.... many bands origin in the US of A. Since my teenage years I have had my share of nastiness of life, and for years had no time, desire or money to follow bands, buy new stuff, etc... So still listening to (and enjoying) many of the music I bought in the 80's and 90's.

In those days sometimes those bands came over to europe. However, Am I just living under a rock or do we really see much less bands on this side of the ocean nowadays?

If I am mistaken (would not be a bad thing) does anyone know a central place where tours and concerts for christian rockmetalbands on this continent are being listed?

Most of them don't even tour the US anymore, even the ones that are semi-active. The only one that comes to mind that tours regularly is Stryper.

Hi Tuckson,

you are from the netherlands, right? I am from germany. If you know Saint from the 80ies you should know Bloodgood also.

They supposed to tour Europe this year. Switzerland was canceled but they will return next year. The Elements of Rock Festival Switzerland is great in booking artists from the 80ies and early 90ies. Barren Cross, X-Sinner, Whitecross, Once Dead (Vengeance rising played there live) for example. If you would travel this far.

Deliverance played 2 shows last year in Europe, one in the UK and one in Hamburg.

Eric Clayton is quite active with his solo project Clayton and the nine.
They played shows in Europe.

Clayton and the nine and Ted Kirkpatricks Tourniquet played last year in the netherlands...

There are also small festivals in your area.

And yes there is also a chance to see Stryper live in Europe.

The Metal scene is still alive here in Europe! Wink

...your question about a central place, where...

You cant´t compare the scene to the secular market. The bands don´t earn a lot of money and often have no professional management. So do the organizers of concerts.
They are often private individuals (even youthgroups)  with jobs outside of the music industry and do organise the shows, trips of the bands in their spare time.

Check out their internet presentations for example:

Brainstorm Festival Apeldoorn Netherlands
Christmas Rock Night Ennepetal Germany
Blast of Eternity Gleis 3 Germany
Elements of Rock Switzerland ...

others here can be added

Hallo :-)
Sehr gut hier ein europäischen freund zu sehen.

Did not know of Deliverance, though I must say in the latter years my prior choice shifted more to melodic stuff than before (Still play the heavier stuff occasionally, but after to burn-outs this sometimes is just a bit too much).
I have seen Stryper for the last time in 2011 in Tivoli, utrecht (Can be found on youtube).

Of course I know Bloodgood. Their album Detonation is iconic. However somehow when looking at more recent shows.... I don't know. Some artists/bands get better over the years. But that is not the feeling I get when seeing them perform. I see a couple of old guys trying to meet de perfoamce they once had.  But maybe I have become too sceptic.  Am a guitarplayer myself en when Ik hear them play, there is so much echo/reverb on their voice as well as on the guitar sound that I can't help but thinking: 'are you trying to hide a decrease in capabilities'?

That Switzerland festival sounds great. Never had the opportunity to hear Vengeance Rising live.  Am not into grunting that much anymore, but Vengeance (before the rising) is kind a special because their debut album was my first buy of grunting trash. Tape of course, I was just a poor teenager without a recordplayer.

Do you have an way of seeing where those little festivals in the Netherlands taken place?

As for travelling... I can imagine going to Germany or Belgium for a concert... maybe even the UK.   Switzerland is a bit far, so it should be an incredible line-up ;-)
