I'm looking forward to this release.

Sounds amazing and looks amazing. Temporarily the price for buying it outside the EU is really steep but I 'll be excited to get it when it shows up elsewhere, even if it's a month or two later.

I don't buy or get excited for much anymore, but this band slays something fierce.  Forlorn Throne is absolute top shelf, this will be worth a hard listen.

This is like taking a bite of ice cream and tasting pizza. I like it, but not what I was expecting at all.

Sletchvalk were notoriously black metal in prior releases. Now, it sounds like Gothenburg/melodic death metal.

...I'm slightly disturbed by that.

Agreed, they always had a raw, unpolished sound to my ears, this has changed style and upped the production.  Sounds very good though, in a way I prefer a complete shift to a half/half style that doesn't quite give you what you want.

Does this really sound so different from A Forlorne Throne to you guys?  I only listened to this clip once, but I thought it generally sounded like it could fit on that album, which I readily agree sounded more polished and somewhat more Gothenburg than their earlier stuff (although IMO also far superior!).

I know what you mean, Forlorn Throne has moments of more traditional riffing like this, and the new song is still recognisable as Slechtvalk.  In fact there's an obvious Amon Amarth vibe (whom they list as an influence) that I've never noticed so directly before.  But primarily the vocals in the new song are more catchy/sung than before, that's what tilts it core-ish to me.

   Under a Moonlit Sky (At the Dawn of War)
   Forsaken (A Forlorn Throne)
   On the Eve of Battle (At the Dawn of War)

Holy wow that was amazing. Very, very nice. I need to get this.
