DECYFER DOWN ~ The Other Side Of Darkness
Am really loving the new Decyfer Down album, easily the best album by them yet. Always thought 'Crash' was their best album until now, some of the riffs on this release are just sick!!! A highlight of 2016 for sure!!!

Is it out? I still thought it was a ways off from completion.
Re: DECYFER DOWN ~ The Other Side Of Darkness
I just looked and it releases to the public on April 1.

If you donated to their Indiegogo start up fund, you got an advanced release.. it is very good.

I've only heard one advance track, but it sounds like they're getting back to their heavier sound. While the southern metal sound of Scarecrow was cool, I think I prefer the heavier side of the band.

That's what I was afraid of. I really liked the Scarecrow album, but didn't care for the previous stuff...just sound too much like generic modern rock to my ears.

Looking forward to this and loved the debut. Fan of the earlier stuff with the original singer.

I get that especially with as many of these bands that were being flaunted by the Christian labels for a while. However, now that the labels have mostly dropped anything rock at all and are pushing mostly pop, the cream of these bands have had to take on crowd-funding campaigns to even survive. That brings out part of the hunger that they had when they were first getting started. This has happened to several bands that have had to go indie to even continue making music:
Seventh Day Slumber
Disciple
Thousand Foot Krutch
Decyfer Down
It seems that I am missing someone else, but all of these have done great music as indie acts. In some cases, they've made better music without their labels.
I believe that Skillet and Kutless are still signed acts. They've had too many repeat radio hits to completely get dropped. I hope they can continue as rock bands. Kutless did try to do the poppier worship album before dropping a new rock record on us last year.
The new trend with these bands is to rearrange your sound to something keyboard laden and try to continue the success as a pop band. We've seen this from Manic Drive, Fireflight, and Nine Lashes. I don't like the new direction of any of these artists and won't be supporting them with the new tunes. I may like their previous works, but I don't have to like the new stuff.
