I pre-ordered from Amazon.  Have been eagerly awaiting the shipment email, was hoping it might arrive early.  I guess not, but yes, pretty pumped!

I slacked as much as Kerrick did, and CM is my favorite band of all-time...

I just pre-ordered my copy, along with a copy of The Suffering, which I hadn't bothered to buy yet.

I don't know about that, DF...stuff from MH typically gets to my house about 3-4 days after they ship it. And I have a message from Jason saying it'll be shipped tomorrow morning. From Norway, your copy could take some time to reach you, even though Endtime shipped it today.

Edit: I'm not sure if the thread title is a typo or a pun, but either way, I love it!

In Silence, In Chains is my favorite song on the album. It could pass for a dark funeral tune. Ok album overall, I do miss some of their symphonic/ atmospheric elements though. They've veered in the direction of Drottnar for the most part on this one.

I'm on board with stuff that sounds like Dark Funeral! I got a download code in the mail today from Endtime... I usually wait for physical copy to come in mail because it's more kvlt that way but it's SOOOOO tempting!!!

Ooh, I hope it doesn't sound to me like Drottnar.  They're one extreme band that I just can't dig much.

No shipment confirmation yet from Amazon, but it was supposed to go out today.  By the way, since DF mentions "kvlt," how about ordering black metal (or blackened death metal, or whatever) from Amazon?  I mean, that's pretty kvlt, right?  What if the major bank credit card I used was first soaked in the blood of a small animal, or at least the juice of a fresh lemon?  I think that should count, like totally.

Preferably a lemon as you wouldn't want to stain the pretty holographic image on your credit card. Wouldn't want the micro chip to short circuit either, now would we?

CRIMSON MOONLIGHT - DIVINE DARKNESS Empty Re: CRIMSON MOONLIGHT - DIVINE DARKNESS

Post by Deepfriar Sun Feb 28, 2016 2:04 pm

Okay, so I've listened to the album all the way through 2+ times and I have some initial thoughts to share.

This album shreds. Simply shreds.

If you haven't listened to it yet, you may want to postpone reading this topic until you do. Better to go in with no expectations.

That being said, was this album worth the 12 years wait? That's a difficult question to answer. Is any "music" worth waiting over a decade? How do you define the parameters of what is and isn't worth waiting for?

Instead of trying to figure all that out and compare the album to the rest of their catalog, I just put my headphones in and tried to enjoy the ride, and what a ride it was.

The album starts off strong. Very strong. I was worried the rest of the songs could not live up to the first few. The opening track sets the stage with a dark and infernal atmosphere that doesn't let up. Suffering is a relentless onslaught of audio fury that only takes a break long enough to ramp up some more pummeling black metal brutality.

I absolutely love the composition of the title track. No boredom here, it seems.

The middle of this release introduces a couple of haunting and curious little artistic sections blended seamlessly into the songs.

I tried to find something bad to say about this album to prove to myself that I was being objective and unbiased, but there just isn't anything bad to be said.

The end of the album is as strong as the beginning, Dusk being one of my favorite tracks so far. I love the riffing. The last track leaves no loose ends. The album ends correctly and as a black metal record should: In Silence, In Chains speaks between the lines. There is melancholic melody there, hinting that nothing has changed and there is no great epiphany or life lesson to be learned here: only black metal.

As aforementioned, I try not to compare this to previous work because after 12 years that would be foolish and misleading, not to mention unfair since everyone changes over time and a band should too. I'm glad this is not Veil 2.0 (though I would say it is as good as Covenant/Veil in its own way) and I love the fast and furious direction this album has taken the band (and yes, I do hear moments of Dark Funeral influence as someone mentioned).

I give it 9/10, and considering how quickly the mid tracks are growing on me, I'd go as far as to say it could easily become a classic and is already certainly a must have for any Christian (or otherwise) black metal collection.

I'd agree with this assessment.  I'm only on my second listen, but I get bogged down on "Voistinu Voskrese", mostly because I'm trying to figure out the spoken text.

Just finished my first listen. I really like it. It doesn't beat The Covenant Progress or Veil of Remembrance for me yet, but I'll probably like it more as I listen to it more. Great album.
