RECON - Behind Enemy Lines (25th Anniversary)

Post by Bill Roxx on Sun Feb 07, 2016 12:24 pm

[ltr]Roxx Records is extremely excited to be re-releasing one of Classic Christian Metal’s most celebrated artists – Recon! This March the label will deliver a special 25th anniversary Limited Edition pressing of Behind Enemy Lines on both CD and vinyl. Recon burst on to the metal scene in 1988 with a 4-track cassette-only demo, which was the norm back when file sharing was mix tapes sent through the mail to and from tape traders. Looks like the orange lp/cd set is sold out, tried to add it to my cart on Storenvy but it would not add it, says it has been removed or is sold out, but the orange lp is available by itself, as is the CD. Weird.

SAME HERE! Sold out already?!? I got the same error and noticed it is available individually. I'll e-mail Bill and see what's up.

Now I'll have to see if Roxx can change my order to the orange vinyl/CD set. I ordered the black vinyl when it appeared that the orange set was sold out. Here's hoping.

Yeah, I almost did the same thing and assumed the orange was out too. But then I saw the "inventory levels" and figured it might have been a glitch so I waited. Hope you can get yours fixed!

This has been on my want list for a long time so I just pre-ordered the CD. Never heard anything besides Take Us Away and the stuff on California Metal II, so this will be a treat.

I ordered the CD.  I could remaster it myself nowadays, but I ordered it for the bonus tracks.

I also ordered the Eternal Ryte Anthology for the same reason.

I wonder what, if any, effect that this will have on the worth of an original CD?

I was thinking that the price would drop way down. Then I started thinking more about it and this new one is only 300 copies. It might actually be more rare than the original before its said and done. I would hold on to the original for a while and wait it out. Then sell it. At first price may go down but once this new one sells out and people start looking for it both will go up.

Thank you to everyone for a huge success on this one! Just a quick note if you want the Orange vinyl! They are ALMOST gone! Once The Orange Vinyl CD pack sells out again there will not be anymore. Black vinyl should be ok for a while and CD is also doing well! Thank you all for the support, we appreciate it!

Good to know! This lyric video is great and it makes me remind how good this album is. It simply needed a proper treatment. I will check my bills for the next month and probably order the cd, if everything runs fine.

Pre-ordered the CD a while back. Thanks, Bill, for putting these together! It's great to hear old favorites with fresh life. I've been listening to the original BEL and look forward to hearing the whole album redone.

And here's hoping for that s/t Angelica remaster before too long... Very Happy

Couple of questions Smile

Is the CD the same remaster, since it says remastered for vinyl?

Will it be available as a lossless digital purchase?

The remaster for vinyl was done separately and remastered especially for vinyl by George Ochoa.

Then the CD was completely remastered again by George and includes 2 of the original demo tracks that George had the tapes baked and restored and they sound as inferior as the original album tracks! Absolutely Awesome! As well the 2 tracks from Cal Metal 2 were restored and remastered. The flow of all the tracks sound flawless and you cant tell a difference between tracks. This one is going to amaze people.

Is the sound quality better than the original Intense Records version released in 1990? On the reissue, are there lyrics and additional/different Cd jacket layout? How many pages are there on the reissue?

On the original 1990 version I find the drums are not as loud as they should be in some places. I listened to Part 1 of Frontline rewind and George Ochoa mentioned it was recorded in 1989 in mixing lab B due to budget restraints, which was not as good ad mixing lab A. I would love to see a lyric or band video of "Take Us Away" and "Light the Fire". These are 2 of my favorite Recon songs.

Got my CD Monday. The remaster sounds amazing! I'm not technically proficient enough to answer your question about the drums, but there is definitely a depth to the sound that wasn't on the 1990 release. Certainly worth the price of admission!

I have to be the naysayer here.  The remaster destroyed the rhythm guitar.  All I hear is bass and bass drum.  While there is more power overall, some music isn't meant to be mastered at today's levels because there is more dynamic range involved.  This is one of those albums.

If this sells out, my copy will be available.

Well I have to respectfully disagree with you on this one Chris. Got dozens of kudos on the mastering already, especially the vinyl. The remastering on this one is personlally outstanding and those demo tracks were baked and restored and remastered to sound equal to the album. We've done a lot of projects and George did one of the most outstanding jobs on this one. It looks and sounds amazing and they are going fast, wish we did a higher quantity on these! Have a happy Easter everyone!
