Re: WHAT DID YOU GET
There's no way I'll remember everything, but I'll at least cover the main points. It was an awesome Christmas, but I don't remember a bad one.
My wife's family gave me:
Multiple gift cards to restaurants (awesome for date night with the wife)
Fleshgod Apocalypse hoodie, Cradle of Filth t-shirt
tanktops and gym shorts,
pistachios and protein bars
extremely difficult cast iron puzzles (awesome for slow days at work)
My wife got me:
Awesome wireless earbuds
digital drumsticks
stuff to make a scabbard for my 5'9" greatsword
Axe pack (body spray, wash, etc.)
My parents wanted to keep Christmas simple this year. They wrote me a check.
I won't throw out a dollar amount, but I'll say I'd have to work 120 days (1/3rd of a year) to make as much as they wrote the check for.
From My grandmother:
$200 cash
Gift Card to Menards (hardware/home repair store)
Car windshield protector
From my brother:
Concert tickets (Fleshgod Apocalypse, Carach Angren and Abigail Williams)
_______________________________
I know this is off topic, but I want to say what I bought for people, since I love giving probably more than getting.
My wife's dad: a flying drone w/ camera, wireless headphones (he loved the drone!)
My dad: a flying drone w/ camera, serrated hunting knife (he broke his other hunting knife and I listened and got him a better one)
My brother: 2 PS4 games and a nice leather wallet
My mom: A small firepit for the deck my parents are building next year, and about 20 different essential oils. (mom loves those things - I have 2 diffusers myself)
My wife: a person sized stuffed animal wolf (she misses me when I'm at work during the day and she's sleeping because she works nights) and this really fancy necklace thing with a matching hair clip
My wife and I made "custom picture signs" for all the different families. She took the pictures, I worked my photoshop magic. (I'm not sure if "custom picture signs is clear - like the V in Eversole would be a photo of some open scissors. The L in Eversole was her cowboy boot. etc.)
My wife bought for her mom, grandma, sister, aunt/uncle - but since this is our first Christmas married, it was "Tom & Kayt" on all the presents "we" bought.
She also made 9 hand crocheted scarves and two blankets.
Ugh, I'm rambling...

Re: WHAT DID YOU GET
We don't do gifts for the adults in my families so I got nothing, except my wife bought us tickets to see comedian Dawn French live early next year.

Re: WHAT DID YOU GET
From me to me: Lego Death Star ($$$)
From my wife: Ken Burns Civil War documentary on Blu Ray.
I got what I really wanted:
Happy kids.
I'm at the stage where "it's better to give than receive" isn't a cliché. I don't need more stuff. I like seeing excited kids on Christmas morning.

Yeah, I agree. I don't really care what I get for Christmas anymore - though it's nice to see my kids get me presents they know I'll like. But I'm much happier just seeing them happy! Their eyes were about as wide as saucers when they saw under the tree on Christmas morning! Just made my whole Christmas. To top it off - we got some new snow - so it's also a white Christmas - which I love!

^Funny, this year instead of snow New England got 60's, and we're pretty pumped on it!

Yeah, I was reading about that unusual weather on CNN.com. Very strange indeed! I wonder if you guys are going to get cold soon though?

Another cliché that's become true for me: "it's the thought that counts." Last year my daughter (then 6) got me some cutesy something at a sale at school specifically for this. This year she got me nothing (no sale). I don't care. I'm happy.
Weird weather. Yeah. To the Grinch that asked Santa for this warm, brown Christmas in Michigan: I asked Santa for a blizzard on your birthday.

I wanted nothing as well but my wife did get me one book. "Falling Up" by Shel Silverstein. It's a book I read to her for hours on end back when we were engaged.

interesting...I find this odd..most people like to get presents...Everything I got came from my wife and my mom...I actually find it annoying that my grown kids EXPECT gifts from us but dont get us nothing (not even a card and not even a thank you for what they get)...I gave the kids way less this year and spent most of the money on my wife, grandkids and my mother....

Re: WHAT DID YOU GET
I got lots of beer, heavy metal CDs, and new tires for my car (which I desperately needed!). The music is all secular though Angra and Sexit have some Christian themes:
Ahab - The Boats Of The Glen Carrig
Angra - Secret Garden
Sexit - the five CDs I didn't have from them (they're a Slovak metal/rock band and my girlfriend who got them for me is from Slovakia)

Aw, I keep dropping the hint that "the kids" would love a Lego Millenium Falcon, but no one seems to bite.eatbugs wrote:From me to me: Lego Death Star ($$$)

I too have gotten to the point where I much more enjoy giving gifts than receiving them. It isn't that I don't like presents, it is really that if I want something throughout the year, I'll go buy it. Plus, if I have to go and pick something out to tell someone I want (or usually, I order it myself), it doesn't feel the same as if someone comes up with something on their own.
That being said, my gift this year was a 50mm lens for my camera that I haven't even taken out of the box yet.

Re: WHAT DID YOU GET
Well, my "Christmas present" was the budget floating me a loan that I will need to sell some gear to cover.....
The REAL Christmas present was having my 84 year old grandmother and youngest uncle take a train from Iowa to outside Chicago, then drive another couple hours over to my folks to spend the holiday. I've seen her once in the last decade, due to distance, and that was for grandpa's funeral. It was just as amazing to watch her face amongst her 12 great grandchildren (my 8, my sister's 4) as it was to watch the kids faces lighting up as they opened the gifts.....this was a truly blessed holiday season.
