Opprobrium - Mandatory Evac ... really?
There is dire need for a remaster o r better a complete re-mix, no, wait, a re-recording of the latest Opprobrium album "Mandatory Evac". What happened with that album? It sounds like a Gorilla in a construction hall. Any opinions?

It's a total mess.

The production is poor, but you're talking to a guy who loves "unproduced" music.
The vocals are too loud in the mix, but I've heard worse...
Never heard this band before. Its not bad.

Oh, they made some real classics for Thrash Metal. Once their name was Incubus.
Re: Opprobrium - Mandatory Evac ... really?
I think Discerning Forces is a great album, so the all-around disappointing nature of the follow-up was compounded for me. I've heard $500 recordings that eclipse Mandatory Evac by a mile. There is some debate around calling this band Christian, primarily, I think, due to the original (1988) version of Incubus' Serpent Temptation, which had some pretty bogus lyrics. The original went out of print; when it was reissued in 1996 by Nuclear Blast, it featured completely re-recorded vocals and bass, revised lyrics & song titles for most of the songs, and different cover art. Both Incubus albums were reissued again as Incubus albums and then again as Opprobrium albums. And now Relapse appears to be reissuing a remaster of the 1988 version of Serpent Temptation (bogus lyrics intact, I assume) as an Opprobrium album. Given that I've seen Christianity proclaimed in more than 1 interview, I'm not sure what the reasoning is behind giving the bogus lyrics version a fresh platform after so many years? Maybe that will come up for discussion in another interview promoting the reissue.

What do you mean by bogus lyrics?

Primarily in the song "Sadistic Sinner" & cuss words scattered throughout that you wouldn't play for your youth group. You were part of the discussion back in April: https://thecmr.forumotion.com/t7828-80-s-incubus-serpent-temptation-beyond-the-unknown-cds?highlight=incubus . The resounding majority of lyrical themes are still pro-God, but some CMR peeps trip up over categorizing Incubus as a "Christian" band. I'm not one of them, but as a rule I don't usually categorize bands as Christian/secular anyway. Complete lyrics are here for anyone interested: http://www.metal-archives.com/albums/Incubus/Serpent_Temptation/69614

The "Mandatory Evac" mixing and mastering was very disappointing to me. It is otherwise a good album and I agree that if somehow they could have it properly remixed and remastered that would be fantastic.
Re: Opprobrium - Mandatory Evac ... really?
Yeah, I probably wouldn't classify the Incubus stuff as Christian, although it did seem to have some pro-Christian slant at times. Regardless 'Beyond The Unknown' was a pretty killer album.

I have Discerning Forces. Not a strong mix, but WAY better than this. I spin from time to time.
