Ha!  I was about to bump the 4-year-old thread on this.  I wonder when us backers will get our copies.

I think I vaguely remember hearing about this band. They definitely have a reverse “sheep in wolves clothing” approach. If I didn’t know better, there is no way I would’ve thought they were a Christian band. Even the name “Possession” makes you think of The Exorcist. That said... they sound pretty good!

I always thought that too...

strange. I don't consider them "christian" per se.

Well yeah, they have the crosses upside down and upside up on the logo and the lyrics aren't overtly Christian, so the Christian part of them is not that clear, but if you read the lyrics of Eternally Haunt you will see that the last song, Rebirth, is very clear of them being Christian.

Got mine today. Fantastic album! Great to finally have this rather than just hearing it on youtube. The packaging is fantastic and I'm excited to dive into some of the demos. Cool to hear how the songs evolved. There's not much like this, wild, technical, brutal. It's extremely well played and the recording is raw and powerful. I'm guessing the market in their

Got mine!  They're definitely Christian.  They said in an interview years ago in Heaven's Metal that they used upside down crosses because that was originally an ancient Christian symbol denoting martyrdom (Peter supposedly being crucified upside down, etc). 

The singer went on to form/front the Christian black metal band Frost Like Ashes.

My thoughts on this....

Didn't much care for the "Eternally Haunt" album when it came out.   
The mixing and production were bad, and it just seemed like a chaotic mess.  
Even gave it another try recently and thought the same.
I also didn't know if they were really Christian or not.

Cut to September 2020....listened to this whole reissue over the past few days.  
My opinion of them has totally changed!   The remixing and remastering is excellent.   
There's a good amount of very good, interesting material on here.    
I am now able to appreciate their unique sound and style in a way I could not before.

I also read the lyrics and am more comfortable with them being a faith-based band.   
They don't mention the name of Christ directly, but there is enough there to where I am not scratching my head and wondering anymore.

I'd say their style isn't for everyone - the lyrics deal with some darker topics and musically it's a mix of death metal and thrash - but I am enjoying this reissue in 2020.  They've got a Vengeance Rising meets King Diamond meets Haven thing going on which sort of sets them apart.

Although Nyk Endinger might be a christian (Church of the Nazarene or whatever flavor?), I always thought they were Marjoe Gornters or Elmer Gantrys. the whole band probably ain't xtian either. but i dunno. I ran a 'zine back in the mid to late 90's and corresponded with Nyk at length....

Watching Nyk's explanation of the eternally haunt album cover on youtube was a joke too IMO. he's awesome, don't get me wrong, but his explanation was flimsey... he could make a Cradle of Filth, Satanic Warmaster or Burzum album cover sound christian.

and the whole "christian" black metal term is an oxymoron also.

but, i love Possession. totally. one of my all time favorites. I have a tattoo of their logo.

LOVE THEM.

but mainly because I think they are Elmer Gantry's or Marjoe's.
