I AM, no further discussion. As hard hitting musically as Fire was, and as diverse musically as Celestial was, I AM hit me hardest personally.

I also went with I Am because of lyrics and the time of my life it affected.

I will always remember when I received the pre-order

My second choice is a tie between Celestial Completion and Terminate Damnation
Celestial is a perfect album

Internal Illumination is a epic song
Drinking Water out of wells that are dry
Painting shadows on the canvas of life

Terminate is one of the most technical albums ever made so yea

Terminate Damnation's the one for me. I love all of BtA's albums but, I think the song Elegy clenches it for me.

Dichotomy by a very thin hair over Terminate, but IMO both are absolute top-shelf classics, both in my all time top 20 (and I'm old).  I thought I Am was very good as well, but not on the same elite level.  TPoF and CC had great moments but IMO aren't great albums.

^That mostly though I think all their albums are pretty great. I Am is hardly BTA, with only one long time member on it.

Tough one... Went with 'I Am'. Love Celestial and Fire... But I Am rocked my socks the most.

I went with Dichotomy over Terminate Damnation.... Tough choice, though. I really like Celestial Completion, too, but not as much as those two. I have never thought much of (or owned) The Physics of Fire.

All of BTA's albums have been solid, and all have had their moments of greatness.  However, Celestial Completion, for me, was their best in terms of the album as a whole.  The only misstep, in my opinion, was the ska part in one song, but it's never been enough to make me skip the entire song every time (I actually like pretty much everything else about that song except for the ska).  I hope we get more albums from BTA at some point!

Interesting choice here since all their albums have offered something a little different. Terminate Damnation is pretty straightforward (but superbly executed) melodeath with a few traces of -core influence here and there. The Physics Of Fire added an extra layer of technicality to that sound, albeit at the cost of perhaps being a little too cold and calculated which the band themselves later admitted. Dichotomy struck more of an even balance between melodeath and straight metalcore, and was once again flawlessly executed. Celestial Completion was more openly experimental, but I thought it almost all worked, the aforementioned ska interlude in Cardiac Rebellion being the exception. I AM is the only one that I don't really like. I tried to have an open mind about the lineup changes, but the music is pretty generic deathcore that I thought lacked the quality of the previous output.

In the end, I picked Terminate Damnation. I can't quite put my finger on it, but that seems to be the one I play most often when I want to hear some BTA.

Sorry to be so late to the party, but I just got into this band a month ago and was about to do a thread just like this until I thankfully used the search option and found it already exists.

My vote is solid for Celestial Completion, pretty amazing album. Rarely do I get hooked on my first listen to an album, but I did with this masterpiece.

Haha dang, this is an old thread...  I'm with you though, CC is just fantastic, though TD is a close second for me.

Monkey Biz

Thomas, try this song; it's more black metal and one of my favorites of theirs:

never seen this thread...

LOVE BTA!

Love the whole discography but I went with Celestial Completion...

I also rarely like a record on first listen and this was no exception...I thought it was weird...WHY are they putting all these weird instruments and sound effects in here?...HORNS!?!?!...they USED to be so heavy and amazing...

well, after however long and however many listens it grew and grew on me and now I consider Celestial Completion to be E-P-I-C!

the end...
we love you, take care, bye bye...

^I had a similar experience.  I remember when it first came in the mail and I put it on... and I was not loving it.  The different instruments didn't bother me but the songs just felt disjointed and didn't flow.  But after repeated listens, it began to gel together for me and now it's my favorite.  Great stuff.

Celestial Completion, no contest. It's about as close to perfection as an album gets. It's not only diverse, it also a very interesting album both musically and lyrically. Plus Jason Wisdom is in top form here, and he's my favorite harsh vocalist if all time.

It's funny how some people don't like the ska part in Cardiac Rebellion. I consider it a brilliant touch and one of the highlights of the album. Very out of the ordinary for music like that and just plain fun. I wish more metal bands did stuff like that.

Am I the only one who thinks Terminate Damnation is kind of boring? It's not unpleasant to listen to, but there is little that stands out and nothing really sticks in my mind once I'm finished with it. There is clearly talent there, it's just not my sort of music.

I've heard just a few songs here and there, but have yet to pick up any of their albums. I know I like the lyrics because they seem to have some theological depth to them.

Question....which albums have more straight ahead tech-death as opposed to more " core " influences ? Or, will all their albums always have traces of metal core in there ? There are quite a few songs that I do like though, but I would like to start with the most death  metal influenced ones first.

Their first album (Terminate Damnation) has some core influence, but not a whole tone IMO.  Their newest (I Am) is the most core.  Their other stuff is pretty void of core.  I think Dichotomy is their most accessible album and might be the right spot to start.  Celestial Completion, as mentioned above, is pretty all-over-the-place and not so immediately-accessible, but it's my favorite and might be worth checking out next.  The Physics Of Fire is more proggy and death-metal oriented - and has some really great songs on it - but overall I find myself rarely in the mood to listen to it.  That one may be just your cup of tea though.  Smile

Sure thing!  And if you're into progressive death metal of high quality... I HIGHLY recommend Vardoger's album.  Wow it is so great.

Terminate Damnation, without question. It reminds me of some old school death metal with a hint of symphonic metal. Also some of the vocals remind me of Dethklok. TD is also what introduced me to BTA.
