I chose Not of this World but could easily pick More Power To Ya. To me these two albums was the band at their best.

Re: Best Petra (Studio) Album Part 1
To me, the band at their best was when John Schlitt joined! From my state of Utah! He was recruited for their 1986 album, "Back to the Street"!
Beginning with "Back to the Street", the boys went on to record 5 solid albums in row! I'm not really interested in Petra pre-86 or after 95. But wow, those 9 years saw the releasing of some solid AOR!!!

Beat the System for sentimental reasons. Musically I like This Means War and On Fire better.

Murdock loves the Schlitt stuff, but he's going to have to side with NotW.

Come and Join Us
It's a quality rock album that was forward thinking and groundbreaking. It's not my favorite Petra album, but that's not the poll question, is it? The question is "Best Petra (Studio) Album" and in my opinion, that is Come and Join Us.

Re: Best Petra (Studio) Album Part 1
Well the first two album of the 70's are very underrated, but as far as quality and hardest rocking, I went with More Power To Ya. Very tough to choose as almost all of those are good albums. Never Say Die would be a close second for me.

This Means War! for sentimental reasons. Musically, I probably liked On Fire! better, but TMW came at a perfect time in my life. I played that cassette to death back in the day.

Yeah, Never Say Die was my second choice and This Means War! was my 3rd.

I agree with you! Starting with "Back to the Street" they entered their golden age. "Unseen Power" was really the last great album they did IMO. Though "Wake Up Call" had it's moments.
Starting at "No Doubt" though ... the band would never recover again. I think it's because Bob Hartman (who was the only original member), left the band. I mean ... when a band has NO remaining original members left ... ugh ... it's time to shut down!
John should have pursued his solo career at that point. Or started a new band. Alterna-Rock type.
Anyway ... that's just my two bits.

Re: Best Petra (Studio) Album Part 1
I'd rank catalogue as:
1. Beyond Belief
2. This Means War
3. On Fire!
4. Unseen Power
5. Back to the Street
All those are keepers!
6. Wake Up Call
Might keep it ...
Got rid of the rest ... I'm not a fan of Greg X. Volz vocals. And I dislike the late 90s Schlitt era.

Going with "On Fire" with this one. This was one of a series of Schlitt albums that just nailed that AOR sound.
Man, I love that album! This was a great rock record that highlighted a veteran rock band maturing and slowing down a little.

Gotta go with On Fire. Everything before it just seemed like a pop album to me.

More Power to Ya, not a bad song on it. My first concert was Petra for Not of this World but they played almost every song off MPtY and live they rocked so hard.
