Ever get bored with a genre?
I think im kind of burned out on symphonic power metal. I still like the straight-up power metal like Hammerfall, Iced Earth, Helloween, Theocracy, Dragonforce, and the like, but the symphonic stuff like Rhapsody and Harmony just dont do it to me anymore (it could be because theres too much emphasis on the symphonic parts and not much on hooks). The exception is Blind Guardian, who's stuff i still dig. Any other genres you used to love but got bored of?

Progressive metal for me. I used to eat up all the super technical stuff (like Cynic, Spiral Architect, etc.) but after a while, it all just felt so cold and bland. I much prefer music that is more emotive and passionate - even if it's simpler.

I used to love thrash, but I've grown tired of it. Though, I did listen to VR some a week or two ago and enjoyed it.
Brutal death metal also. Too heavy. Though, I still love Soul Embraced's "For the Incomplete."

Metalcore for me. At first I really liked the driving rhythms but after a while, they all sound the same. There are still a handful of "core" bands I listen to, but not many.

Re: Ever get bored with a genre?
I never cared for much -core, though a little sprinkling of it here and there isn't too bad.
Brutal, melodic, and just straight-up death metal I usually find quite boring too (with some exceptions). I like my death metal DOOOOOOMy like Paramaecium and My Silent Wake or more varied/progressive like Becoming The Archetype. I find myself very rarely listening to Indwelling or GROMS, for example.

I don't get bored with any genre when the style is well-executed.
I get bored with "scenes".

Re: Ever get bored with a genre?
I got bored with the hardcore/metalcore scene after only a couple years as a teen...
I also got tired of the guitar heavy industrial style a few years back, I mostly just stick to electronic industrial now.

Re: Ever get bored with a genre?
I am bored with a lot of modern rock bands that I did really enjoy.
I am bored with most modern metal as well that is just Euro power metal. The constant double bass and classical solos just are so samey. Yet, I can listen to a classic rock/metal band who may not have had a virtuoso guitarist or most amazing drummer (like AC/DC for example) and still feel the feeling in the music. I think that so many bands now just want people to feel the intensity of the music and not different emotions caused by the lyrics or the guitar solos.
I've been on a search for some good blues over the past year.

Re: Ever get bored with a genre?
I've been pretty good at skipping around genres so that I don't get tired of any one. I did totally overkill thrash a few years ago. hehe get it...Overkill I still like thrash a lot, but it's not my clear favorite metal sub-genre like it was before. I do seem to only come back to the more melodic and varied thrash these days. Like it's uncool to be a thrasher and say Metallica is the best, but the more I hear completely different forms of interesting music, Metallica honestly has the highest staying power in thrash.

Re: Ever get bored with a genre?
...number one would be " core " without a doubt. Second to that would be newer thrash and the really " symphonic " power metal.

Actually, edit to the OP, i also like Luca Turilli's solo stuff, despite it being symphonic PM, but that has more to do with the ultra-catchy choruses:

I'll go from thrash to experimental, and sometimes, to ccm/praise and worship. More than anything, it all depends on what kind of mood I'm in.

Re: Ever get bored with a genre?
For me it would be core thing. It was the first kind of metal (if it can be considered as metal) i listened to. And i fooled myself thinking i was listening melodic death metal Anyway Deathcore and metalcore are the same for me. the chugga chugga riffs bores me to death and are not deffinitely the cup of my tea.
And maybe a bit of symphonic power metal since the other day i listened 7 rhapsody of fire albums. One by one.

Death metal. Hardly listen to it these days and have only retained a few albums in my collection which I go back to if wanting to listen. Classic bands like Morbid Angel and Entombed.
