I hope this isn't too random and that you understand. I just read a very disturbing post presented by one of the most hateful people I've seen on Facebook. I won't give him his 2 seconds of fame by mentioning his name (I'm sure some of you have already seen his post/posts). It's about a recent interview I did where I talk about not wanting to be called and or labeled a Christian band. When I said "we're not a Christian band" I meant I don't want to be labeled a Christian band. I stand tall for Christ. I do my best to live for Christ (although I fail daily and admit it) and in the end I'll die for Christ, unashamedly. I am a Christian and I'm proud to say it. We're not however a Christian band (at least I don't want to be labeled that). Why? Because we want to reach the world, not just a limited few. When you say "Christian band' it instantly limits the cause. Why? Many people don't want to have anything to do with Christianity. Why? Because there are some people out there who are hypocritical, judgemental & fanatical who continue to drag the name of Christ through the mud by misrepresenting him. I hope you understand what I'm trying to convey and realize that I'm not ashamed of my faith in any way, shape or form. We'll continue fighting the good fight and spreading the true message of Christ to the world - Grace, Love, Mercy & Forgiveness ~ M

A band who are barely labeled Christian who have been spreading gospel is P.O.D. I admire that bands can use their bands for multiple reasons like they have for years. They're also no stranger to the whole "you're not Christian!" thing. Keep spreading the love Michael.

Thanks for the clarification Mike. All one needs to do is hear your / Stryper's lyrics to know what you guys stand for. The lyrics are unashamedly Christ honoring.

Yeah, but you're in a famous band. You don't need the heat. I know a couple of hard-hitting paisanos that can make that problem disappear.

And they work on the cheap -- probably two cases of anisette and an autographed picture. Very Happy

Part of me feels like I started a firestorm by pointing out the crazy stuff that person was/is saying....

But then the other part of me knows that there are a lot of people who finally paid attention to what he has been saying and are now aware of what kind of man he is.

As far as your interview, Michael, I never thought anyone had a reason to react negatively about it in the first place.

I mean, really, the message in your music is loud n clear, and you have always proclaimed yourself a Christian. I also know you proclaim Christ in your concerts.

Mike, thanks for showing your heart with us on this matter.

Two things I will point out:

1. You will wear the Christian tag whether you want to or not as some folks are gonna label you no matter what. Just do what you do and don't worry about what they call you.

2. Keep sharing the gospel of Christ as you rock the world!

3. I need free Stryper merch since I am such a good advisor and loyal fan. OK, it was worth a shot, right?

Sorry to hear this Mike. Don't worry man. Your lyrics and your concerts show for themselves how up front you are with your faith. Anyone who questions your faith with your lyrics are simply jealous that you have more sales than they do. Anyone who will cuss out someone simply for disagreeing with him and treating people the way he does isn't even acting like a Christian anyway.

Its the Gospel that offends these people. But I agree that Christians should not add to their excuses for rejecting Christ by acting in this way. Even if Christians acted perfectly, sinners would still find a reason to stay in love with sin and self.

Micahael, can you elaborate on why you feel being labelled a " christian " band would prevent your reach ? I can understand record sales, but I don't understand as it relates to sharing the Gospel in general.

Also, you guys will always been seen in a certain way because you have some history that came before that interview that you did. Unless you change your lyrical themes, and make it known that you have a change in direction.....the labels probably gonna stick.
