Label: Violent Journey Records
Lyrical content: n/a
Duration: 28:11
Genre: Death Metal

My first encounter with Sadistik Forest was through a
sample of the above album, which had raised my interest. However, I had
to beg Niek for it in order to get Death, Doom, Radiation in my lap.
But it has been worth it, because this album is a tiny little gem in the
big sea of Death Metal releases.

Album Review: Sadistik Forest – Death, Doom, Radiation Deathdoomradiation
This album delivers a pounding old-school Death
sound, which gets me bouncing up and down each and everytime I spin
Death, Doom, Radiation. The style of Thrash-infused old school Death
Metal isn’t new, but the songs are memorable and this is actually a
really sophisticated record. With Sadistik Forest, it’s all in the
little details, as the awesome band-logo shows us too.

Album Review: Sadistik Forest – Death, Doom, Radiation Sadistikforest-wide
Sound-wise, these guys have their smurf together and
it’s working out very well. The first thing I noticed was the sound of
the bass guitar. It sounds like shovel scratching the earth, which is
the weirdest metaphor that ever came to my mind, but it works. Next up
are the drums which are not too tight, but they are great. The drummer
manages to keep his parts interesting throughout the album, as they
never get boring, and I’ve been taken by surprise by his resourceful
fills and rhythms. The guitars on Death, Doom, Radiation, are mostly
tremolo picked and keep the album at its raging pace. Certainly the
leads are fabulous, very fast and with an abundant use on the whammy
bar, especially the song Entrapment has an awesome guitar solo with lots
of harmonies incorporated as well. Last but not least is the singer,
who has a great and warm gutteral growl, which at times morphs into a
heart-tearing death scream, very effectively applied in the song
Radiation Cloud.

As I said before, this album is all about the little
details. Especially the drums are playing a great role in this, but I
also want to point out the song It’s Raining Napalm. I was listening to
the album as a last run-over, while biking to school, and then this song
comes on. Of course I’m getting the same high quality Death Metal like
the rest of the album, and then, boom, I get a breakdown in my face,
brilliantly coinciding with the screaming sound effect of falling
napalm. And then the fact that they only apply this sub-bass blast once,
just leaves me craving for more and it intensifies the whole feeling it
creates. Brilliant.

I skimmed over the grades some other reviewers gave,
and I was surprised by the amount of low grades given, with our Dutch
colleagues from Zware Metalen actually giving out the highest grade of
76/100, while they are actually one of the harshest (mis-)graders I
know. Personally, I don’t see the problem with Death, Doom, Radiation.
The songs are quite catchy, their sound is very good and I love the
little details.

It seems like Death, Doom, Radiation really ìs a
radiation cloud: you don’t see it coming, but the tiny little alpha
particles are penetrating your body and you perfectly feel that. This is
just a great deal for anyone buying this; and anyone should.

My Grade: 8.0+/10
Buy this when:

  • you like Old School Death Metal
  • you enjoy sophisticated music that runs on detail work
