Re: Iced Earth - Incorruptible
Kinda sorta.
Jon Shaffer is one of my biggest influences as a guitarist.....but I think he'd used up his stockpile of killer riffs by 2001. He's spent the last 16 years either trying to live up to a legacy he can't match or feeding his ego with a bloated, overbearing vanity project, and pretty much everything after Horror Show has left me feeling disappointed in some form.
The first two tracks that have been released seem to have regained a bit of the old form......but it's only two tracks. I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much.

Honestly... Without Matty Barlow... It just ain't Iced Earth to me. I haven't listened to them since TGB.

Really, the 2 new songs are as good as they've EVER sounded vocally. Barlow is "the icon"......but Stu is probably the best overall vocalist they've ever had. I'm just worried that the released tracks are the ultimate high points of the disc and the rest of it is trash

I'm fairly new to Iced Earth. Been checking out each era. Stu's an impressive vocalist, and I was trying to out my finger on whatever the difference is that keeps him from being as compelling as Barlow, I think it's that Barlow has an air about him that conveys effortless badassery, while Stu strikes me a a really talented guy who's trying really hard to be old school and it comes across as contrived. Not enough that it keeps me from enjoying his stuff, but enough that he doesn't connect as much. It is light years ahead of Ripper. Never connected with that guy on any of his projects.

What I've heard so far sounds pretty good. I love Blocks vocals, but I've always thought that Barlow was the best fit with the best chemistry with Jon.

If you never heard them before, heres Blocks previous band Into Eternity. ET, was one of my favorite bands and I was actually pretty disappointed when Stu left to join Iced Earth. My ideal would have been Stu stay with ET and Matt with Iced Earth. Stu could express a more wider range of vocal styles in Into Eternity. I don't think death or black vocals will ever be getting any play with IE .

Holy Crap.. His talents are being wasted. If he was unleashed like this he'd add a whole new dimension to IE.

Re: Iced Earth - Incorruptible
I was listening to The Veil off the new album, and I was thinking " where have I heard this melody or song before " ? Then I remembered a favorite rock staple from back in the day....
At first I thought it might be a kind of altered cover song or something....but I don't think it is.

Yeah, the wife and I laughed about this on first listen. I'm waiting for Loverboy to sue them.
