The Seventh Power - Eternal Power
I thought I'd post the first review here, which shall in fact be a mini-review. The Seventh Power released, last month, their third full album, "Eternal Power".
Eternal Power is 10 tracks of heavy, effected, progressive metal. Robert Sweet plays drums, and Bill Menchen does "everything else". You can sample it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1FMvsfgRt4
The album is what I'd call good but not great. There aren't as many first-listen hooks as the albums from before, but after a few listens the melodies become stronger and very catchy. The soloing feels average (not Bill's greatest) and the lyrics are kind of awkward at moments. Robert Sweet, however, is totally unleashed.
I consider the best songs to be "Bow Down", "Eternal Power", "Majesty on High", and "We Sail". The rest aren't exactly weak (except for "Godbleed" and "New Creation") but just good.
Should you buy it? If you're not afraid to try something somewhat new, then yes; if you like all of Bill Menchen's work, then yes. If not, then this might not be up your alley.

Re: The Seventh Power - Eternal Power
As someone who has been a Bill Menchen fanboy, I would say to save your cash this time. If there were things that just didn't gel for you on the previous Seventh Power projects, then this is going to bug you even more. The vocals are very robotic sounding, the solos could be pulled off by a mediocre guitarist like myself, and there are NO big hooks to drag you in. If you haven't ordered already, you might not want to do that.

Based on both of those less than glowing recommendaitons I'm gonna pass.

I liked the first 7th Power release, at first, but it got boring rather quickly. I really like Titanic and Final Axe, but that is more than enough Menchen for me, whom I think is spreading his art rather thin.

I wouldn't say he's spreading himself thin as much as he needs to progress a bit more as an overall musician.

From what I heard, I like the simple heavy riffs and the drumming is killer. The vox are typical menchen vox. With Menchen it's all about his tone, which is tough. God Bleed, Majesty on high, and peace I leave with you, rock!

I wouldn't say that there are no hooks. They come out on the second or third listen. Tetelestai!

Re: The Seventh Power - Eternal Power
My main problem with this band is the vocals. To me the vocals are just annoying.
