I broke my leg!

Yes, I was out geocaching in Alabama this weekend and broke my leg and
dislocated my ankle. They were able to put the ankle back in place at
the ER. I will be going to an orthopedic doc sometime this week for
further care. The ER doc was convinced that I would need surgery to set
the bone back in place. So, I may be down for a while. I need prayers
badly!

I had surgery on Thursday and everything went fine. I had a steel plate put in, several anchors, and they attached the two main bones together as well. I am mostly bedridden for two weeks and then I get my cast. I will have the cast for 3 weeks and then go into a walking boot.

Praying for a good recovery.

I especially need your prayers as I am getting rather depressed over the situation. I need to pull out of this funk and just accept what I cannot change.

Finally, I am through with the shots for potential blood clots. I
was supposed to lay pretty flat with my foot elevated for most of the
time. I did leave the house on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday though
just to keep my sanity. Thursday will mark two weeks since the surgery
and I should get my cast then. I should only be in it for 2 weeks
before going into a walking boot.

I've never had a cast but, I get the idea that they aren't exactly fun to have.

I am in the a cast now for the next 4 weeks. The damage to my ankle was more extensive than we thought. I have some wicked scars on both sides of my leg. In my leg, there is a 9 inch steel plate, 8 screws, and a small wire called a tightrope through the ankle itself. The doctor said that I did about as much damage as one could do and still fix this.

How long will this take to heal? About six months. When I get out of the cast, I will then go into a walking boot and start physical therapy.

Dang dude... That is a long road to recovery. How you doing with it all? I'm grateful your doctor is confident that you'll [eventually] be totally fine though.

How am I doing with it all? I am just taking one day at a time.
