Am I the only one who thinks KISS: Alive III is...
is their best live album?
I know I'm in the vast minority. And it's weird, cause I'd normally say
that the Love Gun tour is my favorite era of the band...but I really,
really love Alive III.
Maybe it's just nostalgia, because it's the first KISS album I ever got
(I was a teenager during the Revenge era). But there's so much to like
about this album.
The song choice is awesome (although there are tons of other songs
I'd like to have seen included on it), and the band was sounding better
than they had in years.
Add to it that the production is outstanding. Polished, but still plenty
of grit.
Idunno. If you asked me in a week I might say I like I or II better. I love
them all, and they all hold nostalgia for me.
Opinions?

I like it too. Has a lot of the non-makeup songs and that's the era I like best (Lick It Up, Animalize, etc were released while I was in high school).

Yes, you are the only one.
I like it a lot, but it's not better than Alive!
I think the track listing could have been better. Rather than another version of "Rock and Roll All Night" and "Detroit Rock City", they should have included "Take It Off", "Crazy Nights", "Tears Are Falling" or "Thrills in the Night".
I do love the 80's stuff. I have several great bootlegs from that era that I think are outstanding.

Ult -- I agree about the track list. Actually, the Alive! boxed set does include "Take It Off" (which is one of the best tracks on Revenge, IMHO).
I would have liked both "Tears are Falling" and "Thrills in the Night," too, but they seemed to be downplaying that era of the band at the time. How 'bout "Get All You Can Take" or "King of the Mountain?"
I just got the Rock the Nation DVD (saw the tour, too) and it has a great live version of "Tears are Falling," and it's 3/4 of the same lineup.
The funny thing with Alive and Alive II is that clearly, Alive! is the better album of the two...it's got that hunger...but I like the songs on Alive II better - Detroit Rock City, Dr. Love, Love Gun, and my favorite track on it, I Want You.
How 'bout the live versions of "Two Timer" and "Take Me" From "You Wanted the Best, You Got the Best?" Two stellar songs that would have been awesome on Alive! and Alive II...

Yup, King of the Mountain would have been a great inclusion too.
I have the remastered version with Take It Off, a well as the vinyl version with that song. It's a good inclusion.
Have you ever gone onto the KISS section of NoLifeTilMetal.com and clicked on the album covers? There is a ton of Kiss photos and facts inside of each of the album covers. There are song cool band quotes as well.

Yeah, I forgot it was on the vinyl version! I never picked it up.
I think I've actually clicked every possible link on your KISS page LOL! Seriously, it's one of the best KISS resources out there, and all the more impressive because it all comes from one person's collection!

C'mon, everyone knows The Elder was their best
(it was a Christmas present when I was a kid and I actually thought it was a different band than the Kiss records I had)

Ill go with the first one. It is one of the benchmarks for live albums.

Kiss alive III is their best live album. You are not alone in your thinking on this Jaguarblaze. For me it would be III, II and then alive.

While I like much of Alive III, I still prefer Alive! as the premier KISS live release. I was disappointed that the band didn't record Alive III during the Hot in the Shade tour. As was the case during the Revenge tour, KISS was on fire during the Hot in the Shade tour as well. Plus it is a shame that Eric Carr didn't get to appear on a proper KISS live LP.
I have to admit I really like the Revenge era lineup's spin on some of the classic KISS songs. In particular, I think they really shine on "Watchin' You." Though "Parasite" wasn't issued on Alive III, the band played a blistering version of the song during the Revenge tour. Eric Singer was a beast on that tour!

I get frustrated because Animalize and Assylum are all but ignored by the band now, and I think they are two of their most solid albums, especially Assylum which is criminally underrated, in my opinion.

Totally, TOTALLY agree, man. SO many great songs on those discs. Love the production, the big drums, and the overall vibe of both albums.
