Conformists.

I remember learning the metric system in elementary school 30ish years ago because by the time we were in high school we wouldn't use Imperial measures any more. I guess I made it to high school too quickly.

We might be arbitrary with our measurements, but the rest of the world wants to be us.

Heh, yeah. I remember them teaching it in elementary school and then about the time I hit middle school or so it was like
teachers: "ehh, nevermind, you guys don't have to learn that stuff after all"
all us kids: "woohoo!!"

We really need to go to the metric system. I hate having to learn these stupid conversions, 2.54cm to an inch. 454 grams to a pound. F=1.8C+32 and vice versa or something like that. It's so arbitrary. My chemistry professor said he thinks fahrenheit was created by making a weird brine and getting the freezing point of that. Freaking retards.

Metric ftw. Soooooooo much easier to convert between units.

Reminds me of an old SNL skit: The metric alphabet

I remember when I was a kid they almost had me convinced when on a trip to Gatlinburg (TN) we came upon a sign telling us how many kilometers it was to Knoxville. I also remember going on family fishing trips to Canada and thinking how cool it was that we got to drive 80 instead of 55 (it was a while ago).
I honestly think my preference for the Imperial system is based solely on it being what I am used to. I do use metric when I'm doing some measurements because it really is easier to use I think. The automotive industry REALLY needs to adopt a standard because it is so annoying that some nuts/bolts are 7/16" and others are 12mm.

I thought it was rather funny, and I agree that the U.S. should have moved to the metric system years ago.
I don't however, agree with the date pyramid graphic. There are only 12 months in a year, and 28 to 30 days in a year, and 2012 years and counting. So the month could easily be the smaller section of the pyramid in that graphic.

True, but the day changes, well, every day. That's the way I always thought of it. The day changes most so it comes first, followed by months, followed by years.

That's the way I see it aswell. But each to their own. I much prefer metric because I'm used to it, but imperial isn't that hard to convert to metric if your maths are ok and vice versa.

Very true, but I think maybe a different graphic would have worked better for that.

I like metric but being an American am used to Imperial.
The only thing I didn't find funny about the chart was its use of the word "retarded" probably because I work retarded people everyday, literally, people diagnosed with mental retardation, and I despise that word being an insult. To me, it's the same as a racial slur, since people can't help that either.
Soap box aside, it's pretty funny/
