Covers so good you forget they’re not the original version
What are some cover songs that make you forget there’s another original version?
Judas Priest - The Green Manalishi
Scorpions - I Can’t Explain
Stryper - Shining Star
Jorn - I Know There’s Something Going On
Ugly Kid Joe - Cats In The Cradle
Metallica - Stone Cold Crazy
Tesla - Signs
I’m sure there’s more I’m forgetting.

I forgot the first two were covers, and I can't believe I forgot the last one. Good call on these, though! That's exactly what I'm talking about. Not just great covers, but covers so good it's easy to forget there's an original version.

This is pretty much unknown but I love it. Not better than the original but a great cover with a surprise vocalist at the end:

And no disrespect to the Allman Brothers but I prefer the Styx version of One Way Out:

I am sure most people have never heard this version (the original). Hendrix clearly has the better version. Won't post the cover because we have all heard it. When Bob Dylan heard the Hendrix version he said it was no longer a Bob Dylan song but a Jimi Hendrix song.

Actually, I'm not familiar with this original nor the Hendrix-version.

Both the Screaming Trees and Robert Plant's cover of the song "Darkness Darkness". I had never even heard The Youngblood's version until years later.

16 Horsepower's album Folklore is made up of all covers and they're fantastic. I've since heard some of the originals or other versions and they all just pale in comparison to 16HP's. (Though Warpriest's Sinnerman song is epic .) A few others I like:
Death Therapy - Crazy
Forsaken - Neon Knights
My Silent Wake - I Am (Eternity)
Pantokrator - Awesome God
Parakletos - A Sovereign Fortress
Place Of Skulls - Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood

Re: Covers so good you forget they’re not the original version
Let's keep on track...I'm not asking for great covers. I'm asking for covers so good you forget there's an original. No one's forgetting Rock You Like A Hurricane or Stryper's The Way. Just sayin...
