Big (Little) News

Post by Kerrick on Tue Sep 04, 2018 5:19 pm

I am incredibly excited to announce the birth of my daughter, Gloria Magdalene King.  She was born yesterday (Labor Day) at 8:38am in the comfort of our home.  Veronika went into labor Sunday night at around 11:00pm and championed her way through it to the morning.  All went very well and both child and momma are doing great.

We chose to name her Gloria because - since we discovered that we were pregnant - it has been our prayer that God would bring glory to His Name through our child and this family.  Magdalene has special importance because according to the Gospel of John, Mary Magdalene was the first person Jesus appeared to after His resurrection.  Christ calls her by her name and she recognizes Him.  This is our prayer for our beautiful daughter.  Additionally, the “dalene” portion serves as a reminder of God’s awesome creation displayed here in the Coeur d’Alene area and our gratefulness for getting to live and raise her in such a wonderful place as this.

Thank you everyone!  We are just completely overjoyed and madly in love with her... and slightly exhausted haha.  She's wonderful.  She just had her first little checkup today by the midwives and all is looking great.  Veronika is recovering well.  We were a little concerned that Gloria wasn't getting much while breastfeeding since she hadn't really soiled her diapers, but this morning she absolutely WRECKED her diaper - to much excitement from her parents hahahaha.

Yes, but she was just so gorgeous from the gate that I couldn't resist.  Smile  Maybe if she had been funny looking I would've waited hahaha.  Is this one better?  (During her checkup after she had just gotten her foot pricked to do a blood test...)

Hahaha boy I got quite the workout holding my wife up in the birth tub thing during labor and pushing so those arms are a bit tired in that picture!  I figured someone here would appreciate the shirt.   Cool

When I first heard of home births, midwives, and the like, I thought it was just for wing-ding hippies, but after researching midwifery, it seemed quite ideal.  We went that route and Lord willing we have more children, we intend to do so in the future.  There are a lot of health benefits (for both mom and baby) to do it naturally and un-medicated, and not much of any more risk - as well as mitigating other risks associated with hospital births.  It was fascinating to learn about these things.  We utilized the Bradley Method which worked quite well.  I'm sure your lady-friend is familiar.

Yeah she's a little'un!  Though she's been eating pretty ferociously for the past few days so I suspect at her next checkup we'll discover she's grown quite a bit.

Ha, well actually when that picture was taken, no black metal was being played.  However, she just got finished with a bath which she does NOT like...

The Pooper

You'll take my diaper but I'll fill it first!
You'll think you're done, but there's another burst.
So when you're waiting for the next big load,
You won't be ready, 'cause this one will explode.

The noises sound, the pooping begins,
But on this changing table, no one wins.
The smell of dirty diaper to you I bless,
As you plunge into this big mess.

OoOoOoOoooooooooooooooooh!

I had her on my lap to take a picture of her in this onesie when I heard - and felt - the deep rumbles of her living up to the title hahahaha.  Oh parenthood...

Thanks Andreas.  Smile

The past few weeks have been a bit rough though we think we got to the bottom of why.  Gloria has been consistently fussy and when not sleeping, she's only content and happy for very short bits of time.  We've been trying everything but nothing seems to work.  Feeding is especially frustrating for her.  We got her checked up and she's got a tongue and lip tie which is causing difficulties eating.  She has an appointment later this afternoon to have the procedure to cut these.  Prayers greatly appreciated!

The procedure was very quick (just a few minutes) and went very well.  Thank you again for the prayers!  Our God is merciful.  We hope and pray this will help her.  She does seem to be eating better now though we think she may still be in some pain from the procedure.   Sad  Hopefully she'll heal very quickly.
