LPs That NEVER Get Old With You

Post by L8T on Tue Jun 12, 2018 9:19 pm

We all have a special LP (or two) that still means something extra-special to us.  It hasn't faded over the years.  The style or genre might even be old fashioned, but the music reaches deep inside and does that wonderful thing that is hard to explain.  It moves us and we might not be able to explain it, but we connected with it in a deeper way.

So, I've seen the lists here lately, and they are Fun, but, try to limit this one to just one or a couple.  I guess I'm saying name the LP that got inside your head and heart and dug in and you know isn't going away.

I enjoy Many of my artists and their LPs/Eps but the one I keep coming back to again and again is Ultimatum "Into The Pit".  I do and I don't know why I'm such a freak for this LP.  This thing is just as new to me as it was almost 11 years ago.

Okay.  Your turn.    Cool

Ok, I'll give you two:
Petra - Beyond Belief
Petra - Beat the System

Petra was my favorite band through high school.  Beyond Belief is still one of my top three albums all time (what rank depends on the day).  The first Petra I ever heard was Captured in Time and Space, then much later I heard the studio versions of these songs: wow!  Beat the System is a guilty pleasure, the music doesn't really stand the test of time, like L8T said it's that hard-to-explain deeper connection.

Deliverance self titled for me. To this day I listen to it once a week all the way through with only one song being skipped which is Temporary Insanity never liked the song and would have to say Deadly Blessings Ascend From The Caldron is always on my LP player every week too

Bob Dylan - Slow Train Coming. My older sister owned the LP and something about the cover art made me want to listen. I would have been 11 or 12. I've been a Bob Dylan fan ever since.

Re: Red Sea. On Shades of Purple doesnt it sound like Kyle is singing “hat out of bell” versus “bat out of hell”? It bugs me.....but love the “fireball, speed king highway star” part that precedes this.

I'm almost certain he is signing "hat out of bell".
I truly think the original lyric was supposed to be "bat out of hell" but I expect they got pressure from the record company to change it.

Hard call on the Christian Rock/Metal side of things for me.... Secular side much easier...  However...

Leviticus -Setting Fire to the Earth
Leviticus - The Strongest Power
Deliverance - S/T

those come to mind ...

I second the vote for Altar Boys - GLM

My pick:

Sacred Warrior - Rebellion

It was the first Christian metal album I heard when I was saved, and it has a special place in my heart.

Bride - Snakes In The Playground
Stryper - To Hell With The Devil
Petra - Beyond Belief

There are many, many more that I could list, so I took the first three that popped into my pea brain.

If I had to pick one band, it would be The Choir, hands down. Steve Hindalong's poetic lyrics and Derri Daugherty's plaintive voice are an infectious combination. My desert island album from them would have to be Chase the Kangaroo, with Circle Slide as a close second.

I still listen to Petra "Beyond Belief" many times a year. The lyrics are so relevant, they'll pop into my head often and I'll have to pull it out. It's not even my favorite Petra but it was my first (one of my first Christian rock albums too) and has made a lasting impact. It fits this thread title perfectly.

For newer material. I listen to Extol's self-titled more than any other album. The lyrics are amazing, the production is incredible and I'm still blown away at how much I enjoy it musically, despite its style differences from the older stuff.

Great choice!  I concur, although I haven't listened to it near as much.  For me, probably the secret to my favorite LPs not getting old is that I purposely listen to them sparingly.  I don't want to risk getting tired of it.  I do the same thing with movies -- only watch my favorites once every 5 years or so.  It's weird, I know.
