Not digging the new Sweet Lynch

Post by Follower of Jesus on Fri Nov 03, 2017 5:23 pm

They’ve released four songs from the album now, including this song today called Walk. I only like one of the songs so far (Promised Land). I think I’ll be skipping this record until I can hear more of it. I’m really disappointed. I love their first album!

Do they actually write their own material or does Frontiers write for them, the way they do their other artists?

Part of the problem is how much it has that Frontiers sound which has gotten stale.

Michael Sweet sings sh++ty history on the song. There is also what appears to be a gay man standing next to George Lynch with leg warmers with the same colors as the LBGT flag. I am curious at to what the band or video maker is promoting. With Michael being a Christian and a principal contributor/leader of the band I'm curious in seeing his reason for this part of the video.

I thought I heard "sh*tty" too. I thought I must be hearing it wrong. While I won't ever nail a guy for cussing in a moment, it's different on an album. I tend to think that if you have time to craft a lyric, there's no need to cuss.

Oh well...I'll save my money.

I’ve never heard of these guys, so I can’t speak for them wearing out a sound, but I think they sound good, I like the voice. As for the “gay man” I don’t perceive them as promoting anything, but merely filming some social interactions with people. There may have been a costume party nearby on the day of filming because a girl dressed as Marilyn Monroe is on the video also, and the gay man in question is obviously in costume as a Reno 911 character. For all we know, the band member talking to him was telling him about Jesus and the guy was actually being receptive to the gospel and including him in the video was a celebration of that moment. I mean, we can interact with people who aren’t sitting in our church pew without promoting their beliefs or supporting some immoral agenda.

To correct my previous post, Michael sings shady history, not shi**y history. I figured I would correct that.

When I first listened I heard shady. Now when I hear "shady history" all I think is "Sh**ty history". Thanks guys.  Laughing

ToB, based on interviews I believe that George would send Michael riffs ,licks & melodies and then Michael would write a song based on them.

I like the songs I have heard so far.

I read something very similar.  Michael was saying that George pretty much wrote all the guitar riffs and he (Sweet) wrote the lyrics.

Really looking forward to this album, I've dug most of what I've heard so far.

I have only heard the singles that they released and they are good, but for some reason, I just prefer Stryper's music.

I couldn't stand more than one and a half minute of the video. This song is really bad. If this is the single of their album, I won't be listening to it at all.

I like The first tune ''Promised Land'' not the 2nd one they released and this new one is ok. George Lynch's tone is classic rock. This album is not metal it's like new classic rock. It's put together well...let's see if it grows on me.

The album dropped today. I couldn’t even get through it all. If it didn’t have Michael Sweet and George Lynch, I wouldn’t be interested at all. I’m very much looking forward to the new Stryper record.

I got mine today but have not had the chance to listen to it.  I can hardly wait!  Of course, do I listen to this or the new album by the classic band XT first?

I'm sorry I am not calling you guys whiners, but you kind of are lol

This band is not Stryper, and it sounds just like modern rock to me, which is what I expect

And its Michael Sweet, his voice isnt terribly different than normal

I like it pretty well, but considering I havent picked up the last MS solo record yet, just don't have money to spend on stuff that is alright Razz

So far, I am diggin' this.  George's playing is intense but not over the top.  Michael sounds good, too.  The songs are fun as well.  I want play this a few more times, but I think it is a solid release.  It definitely isn't Stryper, nor did I expect it to be.

Who's whining? We're just giving an opinion that we don't like the album or we do. But I assume you mean those of us who have said we don't care for it. I don't appreciate being called a whiner just for not liking an album. I wasn't expecting Stryper. I like Sweet & Lynch's first album a lot. But this one sounds different and I don't like it. Not whining about it, just saying what I think about it.

I wasnt in particular talking about you, Ive just seen a lot of hate on this album, maybe it does suck lol, I just think it unfairly get compared to Stryper, but do what you want Smile

Kind of disappointed in this release however I do feel it wasn't money wasted. Both these guy's are exceptional guitar player's and I love shredders and I was really hoping to hear some of that on this cd with both of them trading licks and dueling guitars like Mike and Oz do just to have a comparison. Wonder if they will go on the road together. Would be interesting to hear George Play some Stryper if he would and maybe hear Mike sing some Dokken if he would. i wonder how Mike would sound singing In My Dreams or Alone Again I wonder how George's guitar style would work on song's like THWTD or The Way. Interesting to think about anyways. Sorry went of topic

This album is boring...I bought it, listened a couple of times...and it is filed away. No swagger or attitude. They tried to hard to ''make a classic rock album'' George Lynch's tone is kinda lame. The best part of the album is the rhythm section...imo. Least favorite part, the guitar....go figure.............. Shocked

This album is very good, but its a grower for sure.  Very different from the 1st.  It has   great verity and diversity.  I didn't dig the tunes as they released them, however after 4 or 5 spins of this disc I'm really diggin' it.  Give time, spin it a few more times with an open mind adn I think you'll dig it too.

I'm not convinced that George can write a great song on his own.  At least not post-80s.  Too many projects/releases that are just cranked out: A tell-tale sign of a lazy songwriter.
