The Return of As I Lay Dying - Tim + New Members Empty The Return of As I Lay Dying - Tim + New Members

Post by Sir Shred A Lot Mon Sep 04, 2017 9:34 pm

http://www.rockfeed.net/2017/09/02/lay-dying-purportedly-planning-comeback-tim-lambesis-new-backing-band/

As I Lay Dying has been inactive since the 2013 arrest and subsequent conviction of vocalist Tim Lambesis. In 2014, he was sentenced to six years in prison. In February, during an interview with George Lynch, it was revealed that Lambesis was quietly released from prison in December of last year. Lambesis made waves in June of this year when he posted the word “activity” on his social media accounts. The word “activity” also appeared on As I Lay Dying’s social media accounts, apparently alluding to a revival of the band that was once believed to be defunct.

We’ve learned from a source familiar with the situation that Tim Lambesis is plotting a comeback with a return to As I Lay Dying, which would explain the cryptic “activity” post back in June. Lambesis has not appeared publicly since his release from prison late last year. We’re told that the previous members of the band will not be involved in the proposed As I Lay Dying revival, and instead, new members will be in place at the time of a return. The identities of those members are not known, but we’re told that the band has new material in the works.

It’s worth noting that Lambesis has previously stated that As I Lay Dying is “sleeping rather than dead” in a blog entry posted back in 2014. Blabbermouth also noted in a recent report that rumors suggested the band was “working on new material”. Representatives for the band did not immediately respond to request for comment.

Probably the wrong thread, but I've been thinking that we shouldn't have a Christian or Secular thread. Just lump it all together. The CMR could be "The Christian's Metal Realm" where Christians talk about music.

I can't speak for others, but that is not what I come here for.  I come for what the site is titled, "Christian Metal forum".   Otherwise, time for a name change.

This whole Christian/secular debate is maddening after 30+ years of hearing it. The biggest problem is that everyone defines "Christian metal" differently. Obviously AILD was a big deal in Christian metal circles, though not everyone considered them to be "Christian." Who really cares? If the article doesn't interest you, then just move on... I don't even read any of the other forums at the CMR, so I'd miss anything posted elsewhere. If it's related to Christian metal in any way, then it should go in this forum. It doesn't seem that complicated.

As for Tim's heart, I have no idea. I'm skeptical, but that's my nature and not necessarily something I'm proud of. But I figured that some Christian metal fans might have an interest in this piece.

I like that idea.

More than just what's defined as Christian metal, the importance someone holds to that theme plays a part as well.
I'm assuming someone wanting to know if a metal band is "Christian" or not, will use that information to make sure that music is a fit for their faith.

I understand that completely in regards to the project's content.
I don't understand matching personal controversy someone performing that music.  (ie: the red herring of because Tim committed a horrible crime, therefore, the new AILD can't be Christian, even though that chicken hasn't hatched yet.)

The Return of As I Lay Dying - Tim + New Members Empty Re: The Return of As I Lay Dying - Tim + New Members

Post by Soldier777 Wed Sep 06, 2017 11:48 am

Referring to bands in general and not specifically As I Lay dying, I find that bands can be under 3 categories:

1. Mainstream/secular bands: that have lyrics that have nothing to do with Christianity, the members do not affiliate themselves with any kind of Judeo-Christian belief system. These bands would go in the Secular/Non Christian Metal forum.

2. Pro-Christian bands: Bands that have some members that would affiliate themselves with some kind of Judeo-Christian belief system. Some members are Christians and others have the influence of Christianity on their lives from band members, friends or from childhood but don't consider themselves as Christians. Not all songs in their catalogue would necessarily be written form that perspective. These bands would be Driver, Impellitteri, Magdallan/Magdalen etc.

3. Christian bands: Bands that have all members that are Christian and tend to be more evangelistic in their stage presentation, their visuals like album covers and their lyrics.

The 2 and 3 would fit in the Christian music part of this forum.

Until Tim makes a statement of his beliefs and if he admits to being a Christian we cannot speculate. I'm not a fan of AILD so I'm not totally familiar the whole story.

That is what it is, thus the area for non-Christian bands.  Other boards don't have an area for "secular" bands or even permit discussions of that music.

1. I never cared for AILD's music to being with

2. The stigma surrounding Tim's choices over the last few years won't exactly reap any benefits for the band as a whole

That was actually tried here once (many years back).  There was a bit of an uproar over it and the music discussion was broken back into the two separate categories we have now.

Who decides which bands/artists are "Christian"? What criteria are used? Is it the band's self-description? Do we vote on every artist and have forum members decide? This is just a dumb argument for us to be having.

For example, most would say that Stryper is a Christian band, but Michael Sweet has adamantly rejected that label. So do we only discuss Stryper in the "secular" forum? That would be silly.

I think blatant lyrics and aligning with the "Christian" term as a project are the indicators. If a band doesn't have both or any "indicators", someone could still consider it Christian based on how it makes them feel and their interpretation of the lyrics.

I don't see anything wrong with blending secular and Christian musics, in topic or application. Actually, I find the concept segregating. Regarding black metal in particular, it appears common to me that the Christian's don't listen to the satanic stuff, and the Satanists don't listen to the Christian stuff, for their own reasons.

I guess the real question to ask, are we going to risk falling in a lions den to shine a light in a very dark place? Wink I think if there was better acceptance of music on both sides, there could be friendships and witnessing opportunities.

Tim may own the name, but there is no "return" to be had without Jordan, Nick And Phil......and there is a looooong way to go with repairing THOSE relationships.

I pray Tim has his heart right.....but color me "disinterested", at the least.

While I don't want to make this all about Stryper, but that's generally what they've done.  They've sang about their faith while staying with secular venues.  Skillet does more secular shows than Christian but still shares their faith each night.  Even with my own blues stuff, I've been mixing people stories with songs that boldly share my faith and am mixing in some clean humorous songs.  I think we've got to start thinking about how to get our message to an unbelieving society in a way that neither compromises our relationship with Jesus or alienates those who listen.  I think the balance can be had.

As for the original topic, I hope Tim's heart is in the right place.  I was never a fan of AILD, so it doesn't bother me one way or another if they return.

Actually, Tim does not own the name Tim and Jordan do

So if this rumor is true that means somehow Jordan is letting him do it, or he is actually going to form a new band altogether

The rumor brings up more questions than it answers

No doubt Tim will have a musical endeavor sometime in the near future either way

How do we know we arent being suckered by all sorts of people in the music industry?

If he has a true redemption experience, than we have to take it at face value just the same as with any person we do not know

This kind of situation would be the same if Roger Martinez decided to return to the Christian music industry

It would take lots of time and healing, but if they truly seem to show what is happening in their life, we have to take it for what it is

Tim Lambesis said it himself, "most of the so called Christians in the Christian metal scene are just in it for the money"

We never know who that could actually be truth about, to echo what was said earlier we don't see the heart, only God does

Kind of.  Except that Roger never attempted to murder someone that he vowed to love for all his days.

Money?  What money?  Very few bands can tour a circuit much less make a profit.  There's alotta professions where you can be in it only for the money, Christian HM certainly isn't one of them unless you are at the apex of the scene.

Why am I posting here? I don't even know very much about this band's music or their sticky-wicket.  Drat!!! Suckered into commenting again.  Apologies in advance...

That's what I thought too.  But Tim said before that he was really raking it in, and wanted to just buy a huge house and retire.  Did you read his post-arrest interviews?

I guess a lot of kids were buying their music and kids = $$$$.
