What year did music peak for you and provide examples
I've given this a lot of thought. Metal and Hard Rock have had some good and some great years. But, for me, 1986 is where music hit an all-time high. And here are several reasons why, in no particular order other than that Megadeth is first .
Megadeth- Peace Sells... but Who's Buying?
Metallica- Master of Puppets
Stryper- To Hell with the Devil
Ratt- Dancing Undercover
Judas Priest- Turbo
Iron Maiden- Somewhere in Time
Alice Cooper- Constrictor
Ozzy Osbourne- The Ultimate Sin
Queensryche- Rage for Order
Europe- The Final Countdown
Bon Jovi- Slippery When Wet
Bloodgood- s/t
Cinderella- Night Songs
Van Halen- 5150
Tesla- Mechanical Resonance
Poison- Look What the Cat Dragged In
David Lee Roth- Eat 'Em and Smile
W.A.S.P.- Inside the Electric Circus

Re: What year did music peak for you and provide examples
I don't think I HAVE a specific year music peaked for me. Some years have definitely been better than others. 84/86/90 were all great......but I've also had a shift in my genre preferences as I've aged. '99 was a HUGE year for me at this point with my current preferences. There's always gonna be ups and downs....
Immortal - At the Heart of Winter
Opeth -Still Life
Emperor-IX Equilibrium
Agalloch - Pale Folklore
Dream Theater - Metropolis pt2
Testament - The Gathering
Amon Amarth - The Avenger
In Flames - Colony
Nevermore - Dreaming Neon Black
Children of Bodom - Hatebreeder
Extol - Burial (released on endtime last week of December 98, but didn't see wide US distribution until solidstate release it here in 99)
Sodom - Code Red
Arch Enemy - Burning Bridges

Re: What year did music peak for you and provide examples
I don't think I have a certain year that music peaked. I've always found new favorites along the way. I loved 80s metal and some bands peaked early and others stayed consistent by releasing amazing albums one right after the other.
Re: What year did music peak for you and provide examples
I wouldn't say it has peaked for me and never will again either, I am just listing years that had an amazing amount and quality of releases

Re: What year did music peak for you and provide examples
I must say that the years since 1997 all have been good to awesome for me as a euro power metal fan. Especially the period from 1997-2002 spawned alot of classics. But for the sake of the topic I'll take the year my favourite album was released, namely 1998.
Some examples:
Blind Guardian - Nightfall in Middle Earth
Edguy - Vain Glory Opera
Hammerfall - Legacy of Kings
Helloween - Better Than Raw
Labyrinth - Return to Heaven Denied
Rhapsody - Symphony of Enchanted Lands
Savatage - The Wake of Magellan
Stratovarius - Destiny

Re: What year did music peak for you and provide examples
I would say I've met my peak for music. I think music for me peaked when Iced Earths Burnt Offerings and Dark Saga came out 95/96? Moonspell came out with Wolfheart Savatage Dead Winter Dead was out by then COF came out with Dusk And Her Embrace then when Sepultura came out with Kornpone inspired Roots that was it was it for me for year's I just stayed with the underground
