Kobra And The Lotus

Post by metaldude on Fri May 05, 2017 2:26 pm

I have only been listening to Kobra and the Lotus for a short time, but I am eagerly awaiting their new album, Prevail 1 on May 12. Judging solely on the advance tracks, it should be a good one.

I wish more female vocalists would dump the "symphonic" style and just sing.

Really like these guys, I think I already said somewhere, that I discovered them because one of the guitarists of Maylene, Jasin Todd (ex-Shinedown) was dating the lead singer

Interesting way to discover a band but am excited to hear their new material

I've never heard of this band before, but I really like those two clips above. I'd be curious to read the lyrics to the second song, which is off their upcoming album. It sounds like it might be a diatribe against religion, but it could also be against Islam.

I've heard about a dozen songs from this band over the last few years, but I always come away with the same feeling.  She's a good singer, and the band sounds professional, but I just don't dig their sound (mostly music).  Stinks because I am a big fan of female fronted metal.

I agree, I wish more female vocalists would just sing like this, it works well for them

I like the second song better than the first one, the lyrics seem cheesy on the first one

The second song is a more proggy sound

But I would like to see the lyrics for song 2 first, if the lyrical content, isnt solid enough, then me just kinda liking the sound isnt enough reason to pick up the album Wink

I haven't heard anything in their previous albums that was anti-religion, so I wouldn't expect to find it on the new album. I think Prevail 1 is the first of a two part concept album. I found this quote from Kobra...

Frontwoman Kobra Paige states about the story of "Prevail I", the band's most ambitious effort to date: "When we are born, we are innocent, pure, and unshaped. This mandala signifies a human at the beginning of its journey. Unscathed and beautiful, the mandala is each and every one of us. As this album unfolds, you will notice it's more than just music. 'Prevail I' is a story of visceral truth and I believe, if we're really being honest with ourselves, everyone will find their story within it. After all, the battles may differ, but we all started as the same mandala and we are more relatable than we'd like to admit. Our only wish is that you may enjoy the freaking crap out of this album and find comfort in realizing you’re not alone."

They're not anti-religion, they're pro Hinduism.

That's not my quote, it's Kobra's. I also never inferred that they are Christian.

Yeah I should've made that more clear when I quoted them in your quote, but I know that was their quote and not yours.  Smile

I thought maybe with their connection to Maylene (which I think is a Christian band?  Maybe not), that they might have some Christian themes - since the topic of their stance towards religion came up.  I wasn't suggesting that you were suggesting that they were Christian.  Smile

Yea I knew they were not a Christian band

Maylene is but, the member that was linked to this band is not

Anyway, I was just hoping the lyrics werent anti-Christian or negative in any way

Today is release day for Prevail 1. I've been through it 4 or 5 times and I think it's their strongest album yet. The thing that stands out the most for me is Kobra's voice. The vocals are very strong (imo anyway) throughout the album. It's definitely worth checking out.
