Of course I did not see them on this tour. I did see them on The House of Blue Light tour with Bad Company opening up. The guitarist, keyboardist and drummer of Deep Purple all did solo's.
Machine Head is the sixth studio album released by the English rock band Deep Purple. It was recorded through December 1971 in Montreux, Switzerland, and released in March 1972. Machine Head is often cited as a major influence in the early development of the heavy metal music genre. Commercially, it is Deep Purple's most successful album, topping the charts in several countries following its release. The album reached number 1 in the United Kingdom and stayed in the top 40 for 20 weeks. It reached number 7 in the United States, remaining on the Billboard 200 for 118 weeks.

I agree 100%.11razorwire wrote:Masterpiece. Every song is great.
My all-time favorite album.
My first exposure to hard rock was listening to this on my Dad's 8-track.

Yeah, it's a great one and I enjoy queuing it up every so often. But, I've always had a love-hate relationship with it. It's music that stops in third gear.

I love their 70's albums. Essential classic rock! Their comeback album PERFECT STRANGERS in 1984 was one of the best albums I've ever heard. I saw them on that tour! BUT....the greatest letdown is their newest album entitled INFINITE that came out a few days ago. Most of the songs have their keyboard trademark sound and familiar Ian Gillan vocals but be warned that the first half is profanity laden. That totally wrecks it for me. So out of character. If you get the new album, have your finger ready on the skip button.

The older I get, the more I fall in love with the music of my pre-teen years, aka, the 1970s. Deep Purple is one of the bands that really drug me into that era, and this album is huge. Of course, their big 80s "comeback" album, Perfect Strangers, was my first real exposure to them...other than Smoke On The Water...but I worked my way backward and fell in love with this record.

Yeah, I was really surprised...and turned off...by about half of the new album. What the heck was up with that?! Musically, it is probably the most like their older material in quite some time. Heavy, maybe even a bit proggy in spots, with a definite 70s vibe. I love the music, but can do without a lot of the lyrical content.
