Old Christian Metal zines
A mention of an old defunct Christian metal label from the early 2000sin another post, got my memory going on the Christian metal scene back then. I remember some old webzines that were quite popular at the time, so I went looking and found a couple of them. Does anyone remember these or what ever happened to their owners? There was Matt from The Whipping Post
http://thewhippingpost.tripod.com/
and I don't remember the owners name from Art For The Ears
http://www.artfortheears.nl/
and I could only find a few excerpts from Thunderline owned by a guy named Norm
http://thunderline.tripod.com/newstuff_ci/lengsel.html
http://thunderline.tripod.com/newstuff_ci/vixivi.html
Interestingly he VIXIVI interview was conducted by Shannon Frye who used to be around the scene quite a bit, and played drums for Tortured Conscience, briefly BioGenesis, had a solo black metal release called Dark Endless, and last I heard was in the secular thrash band Avenger of Blood. There was another really good zine called Deadzine, and best I can remember the owner dropped off the face of the earth suddenly and the site died. I wasn't able to retrieve any info searching for that one. Does anyone remember this stuff and have links to defunct Christian metal websites that were quite popular back in the day? I used to talk with Shamgar from Slechtvalk quite a bit back in he day as well, he was in law school at the time and a super nice guy, but I lost touch. I remember he said Slechtvalk had a max of 3 albums in them lol, this was right after he put out Falconry on Fear Dark. Still going! What else was out there and what do you remember that's nostalgic in regards to Christian metal?

I remember all those except for Thunderline. From '98-'00 I wrote and edited for the online zine Phantom Tollbooth (still going) which covered all Christian music. After that I had my own online zine Stranger Things from '99-'01 that covered a whole range of Christian rock, punk, and metal as well as film and life and whatnot. Online zines were the thing for a few years, before blogs came along.

I wrote one called "Parable." had 10 issues in all. at the end of the publishing run, I had about 125 - 150 readers.
Interviewed Mortification in '96, Living Sacrifice, Roger Dale from Vengeance Rising, along with a few locals like Covenant, etc.

Re: Old Christian Metal zines
I used to know the Erin Hooper/Bacon who wrote Different Drummer. It covered all types of music and stuff. When I dropped out of the scene in 95 I lost contact with her along with a lot of people.
About 10 years ago, I found a copy in my stuff collection and decided to google to see what was up. I was saddened to learn that she had passed away a few years prior.
There was White Throne. I went to church with the 2 guys who wrote and published it.
I bought an obscure CD from an amazon seller a few years ago and the seller turned out to be one of them and had remembered me.

Re: Old Christian Metal zines
There was an old zine called Enthroned done by my friends Keith and Jeff in 1999-2000. It covered more of the Christian extreme metal and included personalized artwork.

In the early 90's i did a small (dodgy) zine called Godcore Zine. Only completed 6 issues. Being from Australia and before the internet was big, only way to obtain interviews was sending cassette tapes with questions.
They were good times though.

Man, that sounds like a great idea! Maybe it could be added to the vault as a separate magazine section! I have a ton of old zines and would love to add them to some sort of vault!force perspective wrote:someone should make a website with a collection of all christian metal zines in pdf. I used to write for The Narrow Path back in the mid 90's. Do you still have all of the issues, Jay? If so, I'd like to see them, if that's possible. Let me know, OK?
