I've never heard a politician say it before that islam is an ideology and not a religion.

Wow, first mistake in 8 seconds already. The Hague isn't the capital city of the Netherlands, although the government resides there. Amsterdam is the capital city, it's mentioned as such in the Dutch constitution (some article about the coronation of the king). Kudos on pronouncing the G of "Geert" by the way.

I mostly agree with Geert Wilders about islam. There's only one major problem about him: he's a politician. It's really good to see a problem, especially when others refuse to see it. It's even better to analyse said problem.
BUT, his political party does not offer one single realistic solution to the problem. Closing the borders, prohibiting the quran, closing mosques... that sort of thing. It's like the problem is taken seriously, but the solutions aren't. Capital mistake, which has caused me not to vote for this man since I got the right to vote (plus, there's at least two christian parties that are way better options Wink one actually has realistic plans for solutions of the islam problem).

Thanks for the commentary. I'm curious. What are the other party's solutions that you think are realistic?

I was listening to the Klavan show yesterday after posting this and heard something that I hadn't thought about before.
He interviews McCarthy and he says that our understandign of islam comes through the lens of the terrorism challenge and we need to see it not just as those who are terrorist and not, but those who want sharia because that is what the terrorist and non-terrorist want to impose on us.

The interview disuccion on isslam starts at 29:45

BTW, the opening monologue is so funny. He nails 'intersectionality.' Enjoy!

You're welcome. Before I answer your question, I think it's important to note that the US and the Netherlands are very different countries. There are also huge differences between European countries. One of the reasons there have been so little terrorist attacks in the Netherlands, is because of the structure of police and national security. They are always in direct contact with the muslim community, so for example, when there's a hate preacher coming to the Netherlands, the police will know very quickly. Sort of keeping in touch with the risk groups. In France, there's a way bigger gap between police and muslim community, that's why there have been attacks on a way bigger scale (Nice, Bataclan in Paris etc.). I thought this could be a relevant background.

As for the ideas of the SGP (Staatkundig Gereformeerde Partij, Reformed Political Party), here's some examples.
-criminal prosecution of hate imams
-no calls for prayer from mosques; those are different from church bells because the call for prayer is a religious creed in its content
-no face covering clothing in public
-when someone with two passports travels to an area to fight for a terrorist group, he/she loses Dutch passport
-forbidding foreign financing from radical islam organisations
-when asylum seekers are violent in any way to others (happens regularly towards other asylum seekers who are christians), send the violent ones back
-no islamic versions of official oaths (for example inaugurations of political figures)

Freedom is for everyone, also for muslims (that's why that party also explicitly speaks against violence against muslims and mosques). Within the borders of those freedoms, that is.
