Digipack Frustration

Post by My Awesome Timothy on Wed Mar 08, 2017 1:28 pm

Just picked up the new Death Therapy cd and had no idea it came in a terrible wafer thin digipack with no lyrics etc.  Very poor IMO, if bands want us to buy cds instead of digital downloads then I suggest they give a bigger incentive.  If I had known this cd was like this I would have just paid for a digital download. Frustrated to say the least.....face palm

I think that it is just a disconnect between people that want CDs (for the purpose of having the product in hand, artwork, lyrics, etc.) and the labels/artists that think fans just want a physical CD. In it they are producing what they think the fans want, but at an affordable price. Which means cutting out the extras. Sad

I think Jason did this on a shoestring but I get what you're saying.

Same album, same disappointment. Thankfully I can hear the lyrics ok. I felt the same with Anberlin's albums only they had huge booklets... filled with pictures. scratch

I really like having the lyrics and albums without them I buy the digital download and then burn for the car.

I don't know about every artist, but that is why I went with the slipcover instead of a jewel case for my blues album.  I have sold way more downloads than I have CDs.  It doesn't pay to produce the CDs if they don't sell.  Some bands may feel that they have to cut down on the packaging to cut out part of their overhead expenses so that they can actually make a profit.

Certain albums get more attention than others from the label. From what Ive seen certain bands insist on high quality lyric booklets, etc.

I felt the same way.  Especially since he's supported by Solid State.  This isn't alldat doing the project completely indie.  Or even Klayton reissuing Circle of Dust on his own label (same problem).

I would far rather have a jewel case than a digipak but I would also rather have a booklet with lyrics/liner notes in a digipak than a jewel case with a small booklet.  Case in point: the Stavesacre CDs that have long booklets with only pictures and no lyrics.  Wouldn't it have cost the same amount to put lyrics in instead of pictures?
