Anyone remember Precious Death?
I enjoyed Southpaw, lots of groove, but never really checked out anything after. Is it worth listening too and did any of them do other stuff?

Re: Anyone remember Precious Death?
I had all three of their albums, and only kept Southpaw. It was something special, and their later albums failed IMHO to get anywhere close to the greatness of Southpaw.
Thanks for the reminder. I'll pull that out at work this afternoon!

Southpaw is a classic, but I also enjoyed the one that came out after. It may be a bit more commercial, and " alternative " but its still got some good song writing.

Chris and David went on to form a more alternative influenced band called Blackball. For what it is, its pretty good.

Have all three plus Blackball. Southpaw is BY FAR their best album, which I still enjoy from time to time.

Southpaw is the best Precious Death release, but their 2nd release If You Must has some great songs. Their 3rd self titled is not that far from Southpaws greatness.
But I absolutely love both Blackball albums. Neither as heavy as Southpaw but still great. I wish they continued to make more music.

That's the one I don't have. I'll have to be on the look out for this one.

Re: Anyone remember Precious Death?
Oh Yeah. I got their "Our Stinking Demo" cassette from a friend soon after it came out in 1991. He didn't like it because he said the singer sounded like Cher. I dug it, but kind of forgot about them until Chris Scott was featured on lead vocals of the Betrayal song "As I Turned Away" on their 1993 "The Passing" album (one of my all time fav albums btw). I bought all 3 PD albums. I really liked a couple of songs on their 3rd self titled CD, but overall didn't like it as much as their 1st two.
I never got to see them, but I have an interesting connection to the band and story. I was browsing some company party and other random pictures on our network at work a few years ago. I ran across a picture of two high school aged girls wearing Vengeance Rising shirts. I didn't recognize them, but after some asking around I found out that one of them was a coworker of mine that I had been acquainted with for a couple of years. Turns out she is Andy Koehler's (PD bassist) sister. She knew the guys from Vengeance, Tourniquet and other bands from that area. Andy lives in Austin and I found out that he didn't even have "Our Stinkin' Demo", so I gave it to her to give to him.

The first Blackball album is a classic for me in the alt hard rock genre and the 2nd one is also very good w/ a funk edge.

I have their three albums and was fortunate to see them live a couple times back in the day. They were a good live band, too. The singer was a super articulate guy. When he'd talk between songs, he seemed more like a seminary student than a metal dude. They all seemed like cool, down-to-Earth guys.

Chris has always been articulate. Very much into apologetics. Re: Anyone remember Precious Death?
There was one Blackball song I really really liked. Haven't listened to it in over a decade. Can't remember what it was. (gut feeling remembers track 8 for some reason)

Ugh. I don't remember it sounding like an off pitch Nirvana though...

Actually just revisited Super Heavy Dreamscape because of this thread, I had forgotten how much I enjoyed the disc before I really discovered the more extreme genres.
This track spoke to me so much back in 96, I had the chorus refrain painted on the pick guard of my first guitar......

OK, I'll confess. I used to like Nu-Wave, also half a lifetime ago.

I like some new wave, I have a weak spot for well done pop and that's all it really was.
